1218 I'm happy with both selections.
This will be my first Christopher Moore book and I'm looking forward to it.
1218 Is this your first Dan Brown? Although I finished his books, I found his writing frustrating because of his character developments and the male-female relationship (juvenile is a good description). I found that I skipped over any part that dealt with the relationship and just read the parts about the story. I enjoyed the books much better that way.
That said, even though I finished his first 4 books, I won't be reading any others........and I should have skipped Digital Fortress completely. His writing is not my cup of tea, I'm afraid.

1218 Both Great Expectations and David Copperfield were good. If I remember correctly, GE dragged a little in the middle. It's been a few years, though, so I may be mixed up.
Another good Dickens is Oliver Twist.

1218 I'm on the tail-end of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (only abut 200 pages left). What an interesting book in so many ways. It does move slowly at times but all the details come back as part of the story later on.

How are you liking Under the Dome? Just purchased my copy today and with all the wonderful reviews and recommendations I am excited."

Yes, I'd like to know, too. I've added this one to my TBR list.
I've gotten Jonathan Strange in audio from the library. I started reading it but, although I'm enjoying the story, the book is so large and heavy. I carry it back & forth to work each day and it's quite a tome. I'm going to start from the beginning again and listen to it while I commute.

1218 I recently read, and would recommend, Hit List and thoroughly enjoyed it. Have a peek at my review if you're interested. It was funny, mysterious, had enjoyable characters and had a good story to it.

One of my all time favorite books that I never see mentioned on here."

Thanks, Christy! I've added this to my TBR list.

LOL! Oprah and I don't see eye to eye about books either. The only ones on her list that I like I had read before they made her list. When I try the others, I'm disappointed.

1218 I'm in a bit of a slump...I can't find a book that catches my interest right now so I'm taking a few days of a break to see if that helps......meanwhile, I'm leafing through books on my shelf to see if something grabs me.

1218 I finished The Last Chinese Chef and recommend it as a feel good story with lots of texture of food and the history of food in China.

I'm currently reading Fifth Business, the first of the Deptford Trilogy books. I like Robertson Davies' easy going style, his humour and his down-to-earth characters.

1218 I just finished Fast Food Nation last night and really enjoyed it. It starts out with a history of the Fast Food Chains, moves on to the process with the animals, including an eye-opening account of meat packing, then onto how the restaurants are run and how the employees are treated, then the global expansion of fast food and then onto health issues and how things could possibly be changed or looked at differently. Lots of facts and names but very interesting.
I started The Last Chinese Chef this morning and it started really well. I think I'm going to enjoy this one a lot.

1218 Thanks, Carol. Please keep me informed. I'll see if I can squeeze it in when the time comes. It all depends on how I do with Ulysses and Wuthering Heights.

1218 Proust is another good read-along choice for future. I started Swann's Way years ago and enjoyed the writing but the story was slow, slow, slow.

Michelle, I really enjoyed Lord Of The Flies. I hope you do, too. Let us know what you think of it.

1218 I picked mine up after work today. The Purolator note was for the book afterall.
I'm looking forward to reading it very soon.

1218 I finished The Hot Zone A Terrifying True Story, which I listened to on audio.
The audio version was full of breathy, over-dramatization and lengthy & dramatic pauses. It made the story seem a bit overblown. I'm sure this was an awful scare for everyone involved but the audio version didn't quite get that across to the listener.
I've now started Fast Food Nation and am continuing with Fifth Business, which I'm really enjoying.

1218 Not yet, but I did get a Purolator note about a package for pick-up. It might be the book. I'll find out on Monday.

1218 All right, I'm in.
With all of you to help me, I'm sure I won't get bogged down. Suzanne, my brain will be exercised during this reading, too. But with this group behind (ahead?) of us, we'll do great, too.

I'm also joining the Wuthering Heights read-along so will be juggling both books at the same time.
