I'm just starting A Gate at The Stairs. Of course my hold request came through at the library four days before we leave on vacation, so I have to try to speed through it!
Brenda - I loved The Thirteenth Tale. It started out just a bit slow for me, but quickly picked up and it was one of those books that I stayed up waaaay too late to finish. Just my two cents. :)
I'm currently reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. It's been sitting on my shelves for ages and I needed a quick read.

I'm trying to do the same, because I always end up pushing the new books to the top of the pile and my old ones get neglected. :)
I enjoyed TGWPWF, but I also liked TGWTDT better. I think I liked the first one better because of the mystery with the Vangers, which I thought was brilliant. That said, I really did like this one as well and I'm looking forward to the release of the third one in the US!

Claire - Midwives was one of my oldest unread books and I finally picked it up about a month ago. I really liked it - hope you do, too!
I'm going to find this really hard to stick to, as I like to let my mood dictate my next selection. But, I have some books that have been sitting on my sheleves for a while and I'm going on vacation in about a week anyway, so I really do have to kind of guess at what I'm going to want to read. So my list, in no particular order, is:
1) I Know This Much Is True - Wally Lamb
2) The Black Dahlia - James Ellroy
3) Grundish & Askew - Lance Carbuncle
4) A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens
5) The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
6) The Outsiders - S.E. Hinton
7) The Secret Life of Bees - Sue Monk Kidd
8) The Book of Lost Things - John Connolly
9) Drop City - T.C. Boyle
10) Dry - Augusten Burroughs
Just started Interview with the Vampire last night for this month's F2F book club pick. It was supposed to be a Halloween read, but we're a bit behind in our meetings.
It really depends on the book I'm reading. I can power through a 500 pages book in 2 days if I'm really into it or if my mood is right, but I've been working on my current <200 page collection of short stories for almost 2 weeks. I promised myself I'd finish it tonight, though, because I've never spent this long on such a short book.
On average, I probably read about 2 a week.
Welcome Shana! You'll meet tons of people who who live for discussing great books. You're in the right place! :D

I've only read the first story and it's already really affecting me, which to me is the sign of amazing literature. I'll let you know my verdict once I'm finished with it!
Oh, and I'm now reading This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen by Tadeusz Borowski which so far is a harrowing account of life in the concentration camps in WWII told in such a matter-of-fact, everyday way that's it heartbreaking and hard to get through.

Seeing him last night was amazing! He read us some new stories and even went through some of his diary entries, which was by far my favorite part of the show. We got to meet him afterwards and he signed our books. *Gush* He seems like such a cool person and he's so freaking hilarious!

David Sedaris IS hysterical. He's one of my favorite authors. And I'm actually going to see him speak at UCI tonight .... squeal! I'm so excited. :)
Lori wrote: "Stephanie, you could be right about the timing of it... Try Fahrenheit 451. It was by far my favorite from him, and one of my all time faves as well!!!"
Thanks Lori! I definitely want to read F451 as soon as I can get my hands on a copy! It's one of those we were supposed to read in school which, back then, made me automatically not want to read it. But I've been anxious to read it for a while now.
Jayme wrote: "You could try Martian Chronicles too! I love that one."
I actually DO have that one - I mooched it at the same time as Something Wicked, so it will be coming up in my TBR ... soon-ish. :)
