1218 10.10 This is actually the third book I have read in this challenge with the word ‘dog’ in it. A Three Dog Life by Abigail Thomas.
25.4 Read a book where Pearl, Ruby or Peridot is named in the title or is part of the author's name. I read Iris and Ruby which I just loved. Set in Cairo it was really interesting.
I'm finished and total points amount to 350. Yippee!! This I think is my highest score ever.

1218 50.1 What a fantastic task Roseann. Because of this I have added so many new books to my “to be read” list. I read Book Lust by Nancy Pearl and was favouring reading another Ian McEwan novel. Instead I chose Last Days of Summer by Steve Kluger simply because it was listed as a three hanky read and some of the best books I have ever read have been the ones that made me cry. I actually laughed out loud for most of this book and it was only the end that really teared me up.

1218 5.9. I read Murder in Foggy Bottom by Margaret Truman as my crime novel.
15.4. Quiz Me? – I was delighted when Flowers for Algernon appeared as the first book I hadn’t read. I have been wanting to read this for ages and am really glad that I did.

1218 I’m changing The Shipping News from 5.1 to 30.8 as it is on the 1001 books list. I also read Lord of the Flies by William Golding. I had read this book in high school and it is one of the few books I have ever re-read. It affected me then and it did so again now but I still think it is a great novel.

1218 I have just finished Amsterdam by Ian McEwan and I liked it. There are many different opinions on GR about his novels but I am keen to read more. The only other novel I have read of his is Atonement and I liked it too.
I am about to start reading Uglies.

1218 15.10 My initials are MA and I read Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones and Amsterdam by Ian McEwan. I enjoyed both books. I have read a lot about Ian McEwan’s books – people seem to either love him or hate him as an author. I am keen to read more of his books.

1218 25.6 Read a book that takes place in or is about the capital city of the country you live in.

I read The Trojan Dog by Dorothy Johnston which is set in Canberra, Australia. There is only one other review for this book in Goodreads and this particular reader gave it one star. I didn’t think it was that bad. I started reading it knowing that it was possibly a terrible story but was pleasantly surprised. I gave it 3 stars.

I particularly like this sentence "Some people lose too young what they love best, while others anticipate, with every breath, the loss that has not yet crippled them, so that in the end they cannot tell the difference between being given something and having it taken away."

From Baghdad, With Love A Marine, the War, and a Dog Named Lava
Jul 07, 2009 04:43PM

1218 30.9. Judge a Book by Its Cover. I read From Baghdad with love: a Marine, the war and a dog named Lava. I don’t know how to post the cover. If someone could do it for me or tell me how to do it I will. I’m a sucker for a cute dog and when I saw this book it fitted this category perfectly for me.

1218 We have 2 alpacas, 2 pigs, 1 chook and 1 dog. Our dog Emma is a great dane and she had a friend Lily (cross maltese shitzu) who was killed by a car about a year ago now and I still miss her badly. The pigs are miniature and they are so intelligent. They come when called and they love to play tag with the kids.
