Are you comparing Twilight to Wuthering Heights? We will explore that comparison..."
Well, to have people read a classic I guess is a good thing. Funny what can spark a book back to popularity again!
Carol, Akittykat, yes, it sure did snowball. I didn't think it was going to be so popular. This will get me to FINALLY read it!
Meghan and Susanna - great information you researched!! Best Cinematography is well deserved, I think. I am glad that Judith Anderson (Mrs.Danvers) was nominated. Meghan, I am also interested to read a duMaurier bio. The movie had a bonus feature, but it was so late when we finished the movie and dinner that my friend left (with her movie) and I could not see it! :(
Talk about depressing!! I got an email from The Writers Guild in LA and he is going to be here on Monday night...by the time I went to sign up it was SOLD OUT!!! Should I wait in the alley and jump him??? UGH, I am so disappointed.
Hi everyone. Sorry it took me so long to post back after having seen the movie on Sunday.
I liked the movie very much, I thought the casting was superb -especially "Danny"! She deserved at least a nomination for that if not a win. I will have to look it up on Academy Awards.
Another movie tidbit - Mrs. #2 is Olivia DeHaviliers (sp?) sister...that's Melanie from Gone with the Wind.
I did not like the twist to Rebecca's death, though, and could not figure out why the heck Hitchcock would have changed it from Max murdering Rebecca. So thanks Lindalee for clarifying that point for me.
Another difference was in the ending scene. In the movie he was driving back to Manderley with his buddy (can't think of his name) and of course in the book he was heading back with Mrs. 2.
I think the screenplay was awesome, and having it in black and white added to the eerieness of it.
But between the two, I liked the book much better.
Jacylyn I see the movie on Sunday and will post.
Meghan - I have a very old version of Wuthering Heights, without footnotes. Maybe I should get a different version to read?

Liz, my only concern is that Max and Mrs. deWinter were already away from Manderlay when the fire happened. The other servants lived at Manderlay and were, presumably, there when the fire occurred. I hope that they were able to escape, even if never to return to Manderlay.
I'm so glad TGWPWF won. I am not going to be able to read it tho, until the end of November or beginning of December, but I'll join in once I read it.
Meghan, that's true about the Birds. If I find a biography on her, I'll let you know (will do some sleuth searching) and please do post or message me with the epilogue!! Maybe I will search through different versions of Rebecca in Borders !
Annette - I'm so intrigued to read another DuMaurier book and Jamaica Inn was the one I was thinking about. Now that you say it's your favorite, I'll be checking it out of the library when I return Rebecca this week. Thanks!
Meghan, I just read your 3 posts, and think they are great! You should be a professional book critic :)
I would LOVE to get my hands on an epilogue to the story!
You know, Petra, I'm not sure. Max put up with all her antics for the good of Manderlay. And I also wanted to mention when Mrs. Danvers told Mrs. deWinter #2 to jump out of the window, that it would be a painless death (this was at the ball when she wore the white dress and Max freaked out). Mrs. Danvers was just as sininster as Rebecca.
Petra, regarding Max being less guilty - exactly. When he was describing his life with Rebecca to Mrs. deWinter #2, how he put up with Rebecca's cheating with EVERYONE - even Beatrice's husband...I was like what? Having "friends" down to the beach cottage...
Petra, I had one more thought as to why I think Maderlay is being rebuilt. I had to think that Manderlay's burning represented the true end to Rebecca. Particularly since Mrs. deWinter (#2) character grew so much from the start of the story to the end....I feel that with a "new" Manderlay she would come into her own and not have to live up to anyone's expectations.
Another thought I had as to how wicked Rebecca was - she did not take her own life when she found she was afflicted with cancer. Rather she still tried to ruin Max's life...she knew he would kill her when she told him she was pregnant with Jack's child. Mind you, I'm not sticking up for Max murdering her, but just touching on the fact that she was evil to the end.
Jaclyn - I'll post here and let you know what I thought of the movie and how it compares (without spoiling).
Lori - I'll be keeping my eye on you to make sure you read it - LOL
