1218 My avatar is just a picture I thought looked nice and colorful since it wouldn't let me upload a pic of myself.

1218 Ken, you always have the coolest trivia. I swear I learn something new everytime I read one of your posts.

1218 I can't stand dog-eared books! Nothing says "no respect for books" more than that. I used to make my own bookmarks out of the handmade paper and dried leaves and flowers then put them in books when I sold them online. I also used to give them to friends but stopped when I noticed that none of my friends really read all that much. Val, I noticed in one of your previous posts that you run your hands over the book before you read, I do that too! I've done that since I was a kid. This past Christmas I gave my younger cousin two books and when she thought no one was looking, she did it and I've never been so proud!

1218 I buy my textbooks online (SOOO much cheaper than the bookstore!) and once I found a postcard from Paris in a Biology book. Another time I found an old photograph in a book I bought off e-bay.

1218 Hey Logan, thanks for posting this! My friend and his partner are really wanting to go to California to married but since it isn't recognized in Ga. they aren't sure. I wish people weren't so ignorant and just let other people live their lives the way they wish. I never have understood how gay marriage is supposed to somehow deteriorate straight marriages. Does it mean that every time a gay couple is united, a straight couple somewhere in the world suddenly decide to get a divorce?

1218 Awesome lists Charity! Both lists have some really great books on them. Thanks for listing them!

1218 Sorry Emilee, I just now got online and saw your post. Thanks for the info!
We just went to Borders and bought a whole bunch of books for my husband and only one little old book for me. It was for a good cause though! Anyway, he's trying: 13 Bullets, The Tomb, The Rising, World War Z, Generation Kill, Clear and Present Danger, and Day Watch. Thanks to everyone and I'll let you know how it goes!

1218 Hi Rebecca!

1218 I cannot force myself to read harlequin romance novels. I fall on the floor laughing, and I don't think the authors intend them to be comedy. I also don't like political non-fiction or westerns. (However, Stacie, you said such good things about Lonesome Dove that I might have to try it out!) And I absolutely hate western harlequin romance novels!

1218 Lisa, I wouldn't worry too much about it...I mean, you're not buying anymore books right NOW, so, I think you're doing well! I think you should reward yourself with another book!

1218 Apparently we share a birthday with Dave Grohl from Nirvana and Foo Fighters and a set of sextuplets in Paris as well...

1218 I was going to post mine but Charity and I share the same birthday!
1218 I have read 31. Usually I look at those type of lists and have only read a couple and the rest I've never heard of, but this one I've heard of all of them. It's a good list. Thanks Mandy!

1218 When I used to teach 3 year-olds, we had a little girl whose parents let her name her baby brother. They had this cat that the whole family, except for her, hated because it was mean, dirty, and smelly. So she decided to name her baby brother Sebastian after the hated cat. He's in my class this year. Cute kid.
I think I have OCD (151 new)
Jul 27, 2008 06:32PM

1218 In one of my psych classes a few years ago, our professor was talking about OCD. She was saying that many people have just one habit that could be considered OCD. Checking locks several times, checking the oven to be sure it's off a bunch of times, and she mentioned compulsively buying shoes or purses- not books. She said to test it, go to a section of a store or a complete store that sells the item we were addicted to, walk around, find one or two items that we REALLY wanted...then put them down and walk out of the store and not buy them. I tried it. I made it out of the aisle then turned around, grabbed those books (and a few others) and promptly checked out. My psych professor said I needed help.

1218 I have the same birthday as LL Cool J and Dave Grohl from Nirvana and Foo Fighters. Oh, and some sextuplets in Paris. There are more but...

1218 Kirsty, where did you get the complete idiots list? Did you buy the book? I think I might like that one better if each author only has one book. Doesn't that one cover true crime and chick lit too?
