1218 Started A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore and The Cobra Event by Richard Preston. Been a while since I've dipped into The Complete Novels of Jane Austen but it's still there in the pile and I'm working on Philosophy in the Boudoir by the Marquis de Sade.

1218 I finished this over the weekend and liked it better than Dragon Tattoo. It "moved" a little better than the first and had more twists. Because the end had a "to-be-continued" flavor, I'm not sure we've been told yet what "All the Evil" is. I thought for a while that it was something that happened in the hospital but then I got the impressions that it happened before Lisbeth went to the hospital. As for digging herself out of the grave, I think that was set up and was reinforcement for the fact that Lisbeth and Niederman are half-siblings. Lisbeth could have physiological abnormalties (albeit to a lesser degree) similar to Niedeerman's. I also wonder if the intrusion of the bullet into her brain could effect Lisbeth's personality in Hornet's nest.

1218 Okay - time to give this thread a shot of male perspective.

I'll have to go with Eowyn in Lord of the Rings and Annie in Shoeless Joe. They got the casting of Eowyn perfect with Miranda Otto. Amy Madigan was okay in Field of Dreams but it'd be hard to find a good match for Annie's personality.

1218 This thread makes me wonder where advertising agencies get the people who come up with ads using the words that turn people off.

1218 The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien deals with the Vietnam war and is very thought provoking.

1218 I've already started thinking about my reading goals for next year. I may go with a number-of-pages goal instead of number-of-books. Perhaps goals related to specific genres or a number-of-new-authors (new to me) goal as well.

1218 101. Angels of Destruction - Keith Donohue

1218 I think the only book I've ever re-read is Shag, Last of the Plains Buffalo when I was 10 or 11. I always feel like there's too much new stuff to get to, so there's no time for re-reading and I've rarely felt that a book had more to offer me once I finished it. That second factor has changed this year with my reading of Gravity's Rainbow and V. by Thomas Pynchon. As much as I got from the first readings, I know there's more to get from subsequent readings under different life circumstances. I have a feeling that most of Pynchon's work will be that way for me.

1218 Congratulations on getting to your goal, Charity.

1218 It probably averages out to something between 2 and 3. My goal for the year is 120 so I'd have to do about 2.5 a week to hit that. I read several books at a time so I tend to finish books in groups. May go a week with no finishes and then have 3 or 4 or 5 the next week.
