Thanks for recs. I found The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker and it sounded like something I would like. I've been looking at Perdido Street Station.
I've been introduced to a new (to me) genre, having just read Soulless by Gail Carriger. Is anyone familiar with this (sub)genre? Can you make any recommendations?
I would recommend Maisie Dobbs by Jaqueline Winspear. The main character was a battlefield nurse during WWI. The 2nd in the series deals with the emotional toll that took on her.
I thought I had seen this topic before, but I couldn't find it. So, I'm starting another.
I love the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.
You can't beat the Hitchhiker'series by Douglas Adams.
While I don't call myself a romance reader, I adore Susan Elizabeth Phillips--there are moments from a couple of her books that I giggle about just remembering.
How about you? Has anything given you a belly laugh?
I've read the Pink Carnation series and liked them. I love the Gaslight series by Victoria Thompson set in the late 19th century in NYC. Maisie Dobbs series set in 1920s London. There is a wonderful series set in post Revolutionary War Maine...Sarah Lawrence maybe?
There is a long story behind my knowing this, but...
Lorretta Lynn had a hit in 1972 called "One's On The Way". It was written by Shel Silverstein.
I was lucky enough to receive a copy of Mr. Malcolm's list from the author, Susan Allain. It was a little Georgette Heyer, a little Jane Austen, and a lot of fun.

I just finished Dead and Gone. I'm a whole year behind, but my little library is sometimes slow on getting books. I love that Sookie is growing, maturing, thriving. I am in love with Sam...who is so desparately in love with Sookie.
I also wanted to recommend to anyone who loves this series a new book I read last nite, Eve of Darkenss by S.J. Day.
I started with the 2nd book and loved it. I'm glad I started with it and not the first. I've read the first four, now, and am waiting to get the 5th from the library.
I would recommend Ann Patchett. She has several very well written, interesting books.
Also, I really loved The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon.
When I think of Montana and North Dakota, I think of hunting, which leads me to Ted Nugent. He has a couple of cook-books on killing and grilling.
I'm a big fan of Ina Garten and love her cookbooks. She makes complicated, elegant food seem easy.

Good to know! I never could figure that one out.
Didn't I see a topic at one time about books we wanted to rave about? Or trash? Is my age getting to me? Or am I having a "blonde" year?
Also, why can't I post a new thread to the "general" discussion folder?
