1218 Hi Cameron. Welcome. Be sure to check out the group guidelines and start getting involved! Happy to have you.

1218 Hmmm..

I would recommend everyone read Above All Men by Eric Shonkwiler. That was my favorite book from 2014.

Thanks, Mia!

1218 And the votes are in!

Both of these books won by a landslide so congrats to those who nominated!!

In April we will be reading Possession by AS Byatt (with the discussion led by Jennifer!)

In May we will be reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (with the discussion led by Heather L)

Happy reading everyone! Looking forward to seeing you all in the threads!

1218 Mia, that first post up there has the link and it is most definitely still active. Try it again!
1218 We still have Saturday and Sunday to wrap up this discussion so any last minutes should be sent in soon!!!
1218 Hey Schuler....

I wanted to thank you so much for hanging out all week. I know you are hitting the road (Did I see that? Or am I imagining it?) this weekend so I wanted to make sure I have you a big ole cyber hug for being an all around awesome conversationalist this week!

I really enjoyed having you here and want to thank everyone who won and commented about the book. It was so cool to see how everyone took to the book - what they liked, what they were curious to know more about!
1218 Schuler, do you have any crazy fan stories to share? An odd email from or interaction with someone who's read your work?

1218 Hi Debbie! Welcome to the group and thanks for following the trail of bread crumbs that led you here!!

It's interesting to hear about how members find us. I'm so curious to know if you remember who had the link to us....

1218 Heather, it doesn't matter. It looks as though Jennifer's book doesn't even fit either monthly theme so it's nixed any way.

Thanks for policing, as always! I'm so thankful that you have my back :)
1218 Kevin, those were some really great lines you pulled out!

I love how the location of your stories are almost characters themselves. At times I felt as if I was standing right there next to them.

Did you consciously spend time creating the backdrop for your stories or did the background evolve naturally as the overall story was being written?
1218 Schuler,

What's your writing routine like? Are you an early morning guy or a late night guy or as the mood strikes kinda guy?
1218 I know! I am a little early with my welcome post but I am super excited to have Schuler Benson in the house and was thrilled to have the opportunity to share his story collection with you.

So thank you to everyone who won a copy and for joining in on the conversation!

It's never too early to lay down a question for Schuler....

I'll get us started....

Hey Schuler! Thanks so much for stopping by the group and hanging with us this week. I can't wait to see what questions we throw at you. Here's my question to kick it all off:

Of all the stories in this collection, which one surprised you most as you wrote it? Which one was the easiest to write, and which was the most difficult?
Mar 15, 2015 05:30PM

1218 Hi Adriana! So nice to meet you. Welcome to the group!
Mar 13, 2015 05:32PM

1218 Did you both like our page on facebook and comment over there for the book? Just making a comment here doesn't count.
Mar 13, 2015 05:30PM

1218 Tabitha, I also need the author's name in the posts or they won't count.
Mar 12, 2015 06:34AM

1218 Please read the rules for nominating BEFORE you create your post!! And check our bookshelves to be sure you are not nominating something we have already read as a group!

The categories for April and May are:

April - Poetry month (any poetry collection or novel-in-poems)

May - Short Story month (any collection of short stories)

If you nominate the book, and the book is chosen as a group read, you agree to lead the discussion! Don't worry, it's not hard, and we'll love you all the more for it!

Please do not nominate a book more than once. A book can only be voted on once, so multiple nominations within this thread are not counted.

Only ONE nomination per month per person.

Please be sure to post the title, author, and the month you are nominating it for.

Ideally, you can type it as follows -
August - Room - Emma Donoghue

If your post does not have those three things, it will not be counted.

Are you ready?

I'll accept nominations through Monday the 18th. If we get tons of nominations, I may pull the plug on it a little early, so get them in as soon as you can!

Once I close nominations I will create the polls and let you know when it is time to vote!

Hit us with your best noms!

**Important note: At no time is it acceptable for an author to nominate one of his/her own books for the monthly group read. Likewise, it is not acceptable to "push" nominations or votes within this group. It also follows that "a nomination for a nomination" is not acceptable. If I suspect a push, or inappropriate actions have taken place within the group read nominations or votes, I reserve the right to deem those nominations or votes as ineligible.
