1218 Started Coriolanus today. Man, that is one long first act. (Though not as long as one of the acts in Antony and Cleopatra, which lasted approximately forever!)

1218 Read Oryx and Crake yesterday. A very interesting book, by an equally interesting writer.

1218 Just got Oryx and Crake from the library - may disappear for a while!

Claire, sometimes I'm just not "in the mood" for anything I'm looking at, it seems like.

Weirdly organized, as well.

I really enjoyed The Year of the Flood, and am looking forward to Oryx and Crake, which I think is just in at the library.

1218 If he's interested in the Presidents, how about Mornings on Horseback or Eleanor & Franklin?

1218 Albion's Seed is excellent, and well worth a read (or re-read).

No - I went looking for Oryx and Crake, which I think we have, but it seems to have gone walkabout. I really enjoyed Year of the Flood, though.

1218 That's because, unfortunately, Lydia "outranked" Jane now that she was married. An accurate observation of the society of the day, just like the fact that gently-bred unmarried ladies did not generally "speak their mind" in 1800.

Lydia is also my least favorite character. My stepfather has not read the book, but saw the 1996 mini-series, and he thinks Lydia is great. My mother and I threw the couch pillows at him.

1218 The "one segment at a time" process was common with books at the time - it's true of a lot of Dickens, for example.

1218 For me the TLC addictions are What Not To Wear and the wedding gown shows.

And the good news here is that we finally got The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest from the library! (The "bad" news is that I'm being a very good daughter and letting my mother read it first.)
