Groups_nophoto-50x66 yes, I think that's an accurate reading of the story. Yet I never saw it quite like that..
that is great, Misha.

Groups_nophoto-50x66 oh how funny! I think of it as being rather "doomsday"...I'm glad you find it hopeful.
My new work is rather more hope-tinged I think; the early work (such as 'Robber') is often pretty dark, the possibilities closed off.

Groups_nophoto-50x66 David, the one that might be recommendable of my own is "Meeting M." It's in my writings on my page. It's not terribly hopeful, but there is certainly the gift of hope by the story's end. It is not long.

Groups_nophoto-50x66 Oh I love Roald Dahl, and am not familiar with that novella.
The stories I know of his are mostly macabre, well, the bad guy gets his comeuppance by the end, in a terrible twist of fate...

Groups_nophoto-50x66 Carver's "A Small Good Thing," comes to mind. But you probably already know it. I'll think of others.

Groups_nophoto-50x66 Okay, I can come up with some; btw, can we offer some of our own as examples as well?
