I thought the film A Scanner Darkly was beautiful. The way they did the animations was just genius, and it is overall one of my favorite movies. Minority Report wasn't too bad, but nothing compared to A Scanner Darkly.
I felt the exact opposite. I was surprised that Dick's novels were so easy to read. I feel for the year when his novels were written, they are disturbingly modern and speak to this culture just as much - if not more - then they did 30-40 years ago.
Hey there. I'm Zach. I read Do Androids? last year and I instantly fell in love with Dick's writing. I hadn't gotten around to getting another book by him till a couple weeks ago when an English assignment came up to do a author study and read three of their books.
Since then I've read The Man in the High Castle, and I'm currently on Flow My Tears.
Like Matthew said before me, Dick doesn't spend paragraphs explaining to you how the technology works, like you would find in a Clancy novel, he just expects you to adapt to his beautifully written environment, and with a good imagination you really get absorbed into the story.
