A Match Made on Madison
Just started reading this the other day, it's entertaining, about dueling matchmakers viaing to be the winner to close the deal on matching a particular client.
Slim Chance
Just picked this up at a used book store - looked entertaining. Read the reviews for a good synopsis.
Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea
Looks funny, hopefully it is funny - I think Chelsea Handler is hysterical
This Side of Married
Something I picked up in the discount bin recently - looks like chick lit, smells like chick lit!
Love in the Time of Cholera
This was also a movie - might not exactly be chick lit either, but should be interesting
I was actually wondering if someone could tell me which Marian Keyes book to start with. As we've touched on this author at several meetings, I know the books are all connected...I just don't know where it would be best to start.
Here's something else that looks fun:
Jenn--how do I make the title clickable like yours??
Questions to Ask Before Marrying
A NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE LISTS 15 QUESTIONS COUPLES SHOULD ASK BEFORE MARRYING
Ruby Miller and her fiance, Tom Truby, have questions 1-14 almost covered. It's question 15 that has the Maine school teacher stumped. Is their relationship strong enough to withstand challanges?
Challenges like...Ruby's twin sister Stella. The professional muse, flirt and face reader thinks Ruby is playing it safe. And that the future Mrs. Ruby Truby will die of boredom before her first anniversary or her thirtieth birthday, whichever comes first.
And challenges like...sexy maverick teacher Nick McDermott, Ruby's secret longtime crush , who confesses his feelings for her at her own engagement party.
But before Ruby can plan the wedding that may never be, Stella announces she's pregnant by a one-night stand whose name might be Jake (or James? Maybe Jason?) and who lives somewhere under the glittering lights of Las Vegas. Ruby and Stella hit the road to find him–with a lot more than 15 questions.
And after three thousand miles, a stowaway relative and hitchhiking teen lovebirds bound for an Elvis wedding chapel, the Miller sisters might get some answers.

I like all these ideas! Something lighthearted I agree. Put up the poll! I want to start reading :)

Love the One You're With by Emily Giffin
Discusses the idea of a past love vs. the man she's married to now.
Caroline responded:
Given that Twilight is coming out, I'm in a vampire-y mood, so this is my suggestion for the month:
Undead and Undwed (MaryJanice Davidson)
Betsy Taylor--former model, newly unemployed secretary, 30, and still single--wakes up after being flattened by a small SUV in a tacky coffin wearing cheap knock-off shoes. Her mother is glad she is back, albeit as a vampire, but her stepmother is enraged that Betsy has reclaimed her designer-shoe collection. With a wealthy best friend and a newly acquired doctor pal who is not susceptible to her formidable allure, she sets out to right wrongs but is abducted by Nostro, a tacky 500-year-old vampire who rules the undead roost. It seems that Betsy is an anomaly: a vampire who doesn't burn in sunlight, can fight the urge to feed, and is not repulsed by religious articles, all of which may make her the prophesied Queen of the Vampires. Teaming up with gorgeous vampire Eric Sinclair, who is in her opinion a major pervert, she takes on Nostro and his minions. Sexy, steamy, and laugh-out-loud funny, Davidson's chick-lit foray into the paranormal is delightful. Diana Tixier Herald

Love The One You're With - Emily Giffin
Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea - chelsea handler
Though I'm fine with what everyone else
Meg responded:
Both books sound good. After reading Friday Night Knitting Club, I think we should go for something light-hearted. JABC sounds fun. The book Jen suggested sounds like an easy read. We should def. read both at some point!
Bryanne responded:
Hi all,
I'm happy with Jenny's suggestion, but thought I'd add another just for variety! This is one we talked about in our first meeting...
The Jane Austen Book Club
Karen Joy Fowler
In California's central valley, five women and one man join to discuss Jane Austen's novels. Over the six months they get together, marriages are tested, affairs begin, unsuitable arrangements become suitable, and love happens. With her eye for the frailties of human behavior and her ear for the absurdities of social intercourse, Karen Joy Fowler has never been wittier nor her characters more appealing. The result is a delicious dissection of modern relationships.
Dedicated Austenites will delight in unearthing the echoes of Austen that run through the novel, but most readers will simply enjoy the vision and voice that, despite two centuries of separation, unite two great writers of brilliant social comedy.

My suggestion :
Manhunting - Jennifer Crusie
Management consultant Kate Svenson has a high-powered job in her father's company, enough money to live worry free, and a plan for the way her life should work out. The only thing she doesn't have is a relationship--the crux of the life plan. Kate wants to be married, and not just to any man, but to one who meets certain requirements. He has to be successful, intelligent, distinguished, well-mannered, and ambitious. It sounds easy enough, particularly when her best friend sends her to a golf resort in Kentucky frequented by the sort of men she's looking for.
Jake Templeton has left life in the city to help his brother run a high profile golf resort in the country. A former tax attorney, these days Jake spends his days napping on a boat in the river, managing the outdoor activities at the resort, and drinking beer and playing pool at the local bar. When Kate shows up at the resort, she promptly starts dating the eligible bachelors--and keeps getting herself into awkward situations where Jake winds up playing the hero. When her manhunting becomes more trouble than it's worth, Jake realizes that maybe she is worth it and maybe he's the man who deserves her.
Manhunting is typical early Crusie. It has a solid love story with plenty of funny moments. The poor men who Kate tramples on the path to finding love with Jake offer some of the funniest moments in the book. My only problem was how easily Kate seemed to turn from a power-hungry workaholic to being willing to shake off life in the fast lane for a quiet life in the country. It was a bit too easy, and made it difficult to take her seriously at points. Overall, I liked this story, but it was nothing spectacular. It's just another funny chick lit story with a cute plot and a well-rounded cast of characters

Hi Ladies,
So we had our 2nd book meetup to discuss our book of the month... Friday Night Knitting Club! It was interesting because it seemed like it wasn't really a favorite of anyone; some members couldn't even get into it enough to finish it! But it's no biggie :) Sometimes you like a book and sometimes you don't but at least we know what the book is like!
Anyway, it's time to pick our book for December... keeping in mind that it will be the holidays and not everyone will be able to make the meetup... anyway.... There is a message board started on Meetup.com called "December's Book" Please post your book nominations on the board along with a brief description. I will close the message board on Friday and put up a poll.... then... everyone VOTE for which book you would like to read. I will keep the poll open from Saturday until Wednesday (the day before Thanksgiving). On Thanksgiving, I will post December's book!
Also, this month's mid-way meetup will be on a Tuesday. I, personally cannot attend, but I'll put it on the group calendar and just pick a place... if anyone has any other suggestions of a place, shoot me an email or put a note up under that meetup so I will know if you would rather meet somewhere else!
Thanks!
Jenny

Ok Ladies... so thank you for the feedback... both on the message board and through emails! I really appreciate it! From what everyone is saying... I'm putting together a sort of game plan for the group going forward... please let me know your thoughts!
We meet 1 time a month to discuss the book of the month (we are finishing Lipstick Jungle this Wednesday and will read "the friday night knitting club" for November's meetup)... we can have this meeting on a Wednesday at someone's house - We can decide which house later - In this meeting, we will go through discussion questions and chat about the plot/characters/themes/etc... The week before the monthly meetup, I will post discussion questions online... that way, people who will not be able to make the meetup can post their thoughts... I will print out the discussion threads and bring them to the meetup so we can talk about everyone's thoughts during the meetup.
After this monthly meetup, I start a message board asking for suggestions of what to read the next month... so for example, after this Wednesday, we will be done with Lipstick Jungle and will be starting "the friday night knitting club" to discuss in our November meetup... I will start a message board for suggestions on what book we should read for our December meetup. Once there are a few suggestions, I will start a poll and everyone can vote on which one they would like to read most... the poll will be open all month, and we will officially announce the book in the monthly meetup.
We will also have a "mid way meetup".... this meetup will be in a public place - a happy hour, restaurant, coffeeshop, an outdoor park (when the weather gets warm again!) For the day, we can alternate days so that hopefully all members will be able to attend a meetup every once in a while... so one time we'll do Monday, and another on a Thursday, etc... In this meetup we can discuss several things (but will be mainly a good chance to get to know everyone better) So we can discuss favorite authors ... what we think of the monthly book so far... even the latest episode of Grey's anatomy haha.... If you don't want to go to this meetup, it's no problem, you don't have to go... but I started the group for 2 main reasons: 1) so that young fun women can have a chance to share their thoughts on a common book and 2) to meet some fun fabulous women in the area that might become friends beyond just literature!
So there is my sort of assessment of what everyone's thoughts are... I think it allows us to have a bit of what everyone is looking for... what do you all think?
