Just finished "A Hole in My Life" by Jack Gantos. It's about his youth and how he landed in prison and cleaned up his act.
There is some discussion in my YA class that it is too mature for middle school readers and some are questioning its place on their shelves. Has anyone read this?
For those that are being negative about this book/movie, they need to remember, like they did with Harry Potter, that it is Fantasy/Sci-Fi. It has alternate worlds, things work differently there. There are many Sci-Fi novels where religion is corrupt. This is no different. When Harry Potter came out, many claimed it approved of the cult, satanism. But that series is one of the best loved and most popular. Is this any different?
Am reading The Book Thief right now, almost done. Will probably finish up tonight. Then I move on to the Gantos bio, Hole in my Life, I think. Book is downstairs.
Book Thief is better, now that I am used to the style. It was hard.
Inkheart was great, but it's been years since I read it. Same with the Golden Compass. But I loved both of them. Some say the first book is the best, from Pullman, but I enjoyed all of them.
Ohhh, Ender's Game!! Love that book! Love the Scott Westerfeld series starting with Uglies. Great dystopian sci-fi. The Princess Diaries series are fun, by Meg Cabot. Melissa De La Cruz has a new series out, about Vampires, first one called Blue Bloods. Love them. Here other series is cute, very girly, first one called Au Pairs. Wow, I could go on and on!!
Am reading the Book Thief right now, for a YA lit class. I've heard good things about it but the style is putting me off. Anyone else read it?
I picked up Over Sea, Under Stone the other day at B&N, but put it back and got Holes for my nephew. He loves that movie.
