Summer Reading (13 new)

11013 I haven't been able to keep up with what I've been reading... but right now I'm closing in on the end of City of Thieves. It has been a wonderful read - sad and disturbing, but good!

I LOVE that episode! lol! It is a Stephen King book, actually - The Shining. :)

On a different note - I finished reading The Handmaid's Tale, and I'm going to hafta agree that it is definitely creepy!

11013 I'm going to have to think on this and get back to you. There are few books that truly scare me and I'm having trouble thinking of anything right off the top of my head.

I will say that The Shining DID freak me out - one of my favorite Stephen King books... And parts of King's novel It were also pretty creepy. If I reread it now it might not have the same effect, but I was pretty young when I picked it up and there some parts that kept me from going into the bathroom late at night because I didn't want to be near the drains! : )

Okay. I know postings on this thread died about 3 months ago, but I'm never good at keeping up with discussions!

I just wanted to say that I LOVED the first line of Gunslinger and it is probably one of my favorites of the series. However, most people I know that have read all of the Tower books like Gunslinger the least. There are a few people that haven't read the epic at all because they couldn't get past the first book. *GASP*

Thanks, Robert, for confirming that I'm not the only one that loved Gunslinger and didn't care for Wolves. : )

11013 Wow. One book? I'm with Stephanie about Harry Potter & the Dark Tower series. I probably could pick one if you pinned me down, but it'd be difficult! (With Dark Tower, I think I'm one of the only people on the planet that actually LOVED the first book. Most people I know hated it!)

If I had to pick one book for entertainment purposes, etc, I'm not sure I could. I'll think about that and get back to you. If I were picking based solely on "influence and lessons of life" variety, I'd have to be cliche and say the Bible. :)
