Besides the premise of the book, I can't really say I like anything else about this book. The characters were forgettable, I didn't find myself caring for any of them. The plot was interesting at first but it never did develope into anything. I felt like most of the events that happened were pretty pointless and added nothing to the story. To me things just happened, it didn't feel really coherent. The ending was just really cliche and kind of a let down.
Assassin's Apprentice - Just because its been trying so hard the last two times and third times a charm?
The Lies of Locke Lamora - Thieving, conning and fantasy...What more can one ask for?
I've designated April as Trilogy month, so I'm gonna try to get through the First Law, Shanarra and Farseer Trilogy. Also I'm reading Tigana and waiting for Deadhouse Gates to arrive.
Well I still haven't recieved my copy of DG yet, maybe I should have gotten it locally instead of Amazon. Oh well.
Derek, from what I've been reading on other discussion boards is that the main series is suppose to be 10 books, while Ian will write 5 more set in the same world.
I'm with Jon on this one, Myron then Hadrian. I'm not particulary sure about Royce right now. He seems like a character I would typically like, but when I finished the book, I felt nothing particular about him.
Yes I would have to agree that more character developement would have been great.
And not so much a dislike, but I was kind of disappointed that there wasn't more thieving.
Yes I found quite a few places where I couldn't help but smile, even laughed out loud a few times.
The faces on the prison did give me the creeps when reading and scene where Myron was talking about his dead brothers was an emotional to me.
I like the idea Chris came up with, I wouldn't mind having two general fantasy. And it would be nice to have reading options.
I'm not sure I can disagree with some of the things you said Josh but I don't agree with it al. Its true I feel that the dialogue isn't that great and the story can be cliche. But in all fairness most fantasy books follow a certain formula and ideas are reused or borrowed.
Also the sword of truth may sound like the sword of shannara but they're totally different. The sword of truth is only a symbol or tool for the seeker, it doesn't have any truth revealing abilities.
This months poll is pretty exciting, the results are so close at this point. Looking at previous months polls there shouldn't be that many more voters either. So the next few votes could very well determine the winner.
I'm not sure if this is correct, but I think I read somewhere that it was suppose to be 2 trilogy. The first being about his past and the second should be revolving around the current events that are happening.
Well I'm pretty excited to read about all these characters. I have to admit I haven't been taken by Anomander Rake, maybe like you said he starts out as a stereotypical character so I'll have to wait and see.
Thank you everyone for all the input, I'm convinced I'll pick up Deadhouse Gates with my next Amazon purchase next week.
Also I'm just wondering who everyones favorite characters are. I've only read the first book so I guess I don't know all the characters yet but my favorite so far is Quick Ben. I also like Paran and I'm really interested in Caladan Brood.
Alright so pretty much the consensus right now is MBotF. The only thing that concerns me about the series is theres way to many powerful characters, in book one thers already more then I can remember. Just wondering if it is toned down as the the series goes on?
I was just wondering what everyones thoughts were on the Malazan series as a whole. I've read the first book Gardens of the Moon and really enjoyed it.
I've been meaning to pick up a longer series but haven't really decided which one. I've already narrowed it down to either the Wheel of Time series or Malazan.
So I'm just curious on peoples thought of this series as a whole?
Currently reading Neverwhere A Novel and struggling through The Adventures of Augie March.
Try to get atleast one or two of these done..
The Princess Bride
East of Eden
American Gods
Alphabet of Thorn
And hopefully The Crown Conspiracy if I can find a copy of it.
I'm also looking forward to him leaving the university. Hopefully we'll get to explore more of the world. Also him learning how to fight and learning the names of things.
Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay. I've been wanting to read this for awhile now, the concept of the book sounds refreshing and new to me. Also the fact that the authors place of birth is an hour away from me is pretty cool.
