10915 Finished off my reread of The Hobbit Or There and Back Again today. I enjoyed it more this second time around.

I also read It's Beginning to Look at Lot Like Zombies a Book of Zombie Chris by Michael P. Spradlin. I read it in probably less than a half hour. Very funny zombie Christmas carols.

I've just started on The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks
10915 I liked the ending. It wasn't happy, but perhaps he left it open so he can write more about these characters. I can only hope. I'd like to see Glokta return for sure.
10915 I imagine myself being a keeper and/or writer of scrolls. I enjoy so much being in a library surrounded by words, that I think I would probably just do the same thing in a fantasy world.

10915 Last night I finished The Codex by Douglas Preston. Not fantasy, but a thriller/adventure novel. It was quite a good story for basically a popcorn read.

Now, I'm about to start Nyphron Rising by Michael J. Sullivan.

10915 Well, I'd imagine first I'd try to get as many allies as I can. Power in numbers. I would pick people who have different skill sets. Maybe get a few spies, to check out the enemy's movements. Just really get to know the enemy, so I can formulate a strategy against them. We'd also need to find some kind of safe bunker, to discuss the plans in detail in secret. I'd imagine the plan I'd come up with would have to be one that would take the enemy off guard.

10915 Size doesn't matter to me and I don't get intimidated usually, unless I have a bunch a books in my "to read" pile that are 600+ pages, and not many shorter books, then yes sometimes that can be a little intimidating. Of course it depends on the book as well. Sometimes the doorstoppers can actually be fast paced, and sometimes they are slow trawl. I do like to change things up, reading a lightweight book after a heavy one, depending on my mood.

As far as series goes, well I don't like getting involved with super long series. Although there were a couple I completed like Harry Potter and Sword of Truth because I got hooked on them. In general, I don't like to get into long series. Something like Shannara, I'd be hesitant to start because there are so many books.

That's why I like standalones. If you can complete a story in one or two books, that's great. But since almost everything in fantasy is series, I still buy them, but I'm pretty horrible at finishing series. At least not all in one go. I think it's because I always want to try something new, and not be stuck in the same world for several books at one time. Obviously if the world or characters are really engaging, then I want to continue with it right away, but that doesn't happen very often for me.

10915 Oh that's tough to narrow it down to three. I think currently it would be

Gollum from The Hobbit and LOTR
Zedd from The Sword of Truth series
Tyrion from ASOIAF (though I've only read the first book)

I would second that one. :)

10915 I love Glokta. He's my favorite character. I could probably read a whole book just about him. Maybe a prequel? I enjoyed his thoughts about things too, his sarcasm. I don't think he's someone who really takes sides. He pretty much does his own thing.

10915 Read it once before and now rereading it.

I know. I was just thinking that. I can imagine it. Fans being angrier with Tolkien than they are with Martin.

10915 I rarely reread, but incidentally I've already reread two books this year, and already rereading a third. The reason I very rarely do it however is because I always have too many books that I haven't read yet, so I want to get to them first. Maybe if I stopped my book buying addiction, then I would reread more, and I know my memory sucks, but oh well.

10915 Just picked up these

Summer Knight by Jim Butcher
Practical Demonkeeping by Christopher Moore
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

and I just got my copy of Nyphron Rising by Michael J. Sullivan

Got quite a few exciting plans for reading in these next couple of months. :)

10915 Oh yeah, I haven't read The Way of Shadows yet either. It's been sitting on my shelf for a while now, so it gives me an excuse to start it.

10915 Looking forward to rereading it. I actually saw the cartoon version first before reading the book. It was my favorite movie when I was a kid, and I still enjoy it.

Yeah, I hope so too. I found what was going on in the present was actually more interesting than the past. It would be cool if it would be like half and half, of the present situation and the back story, but I also don't want to have any unnecessary expectations of it yet.
