I finished up and am all ready for the discussion!
I've also read Crown Conspiracy a few months ago - it is a fast read and I enjoyed it a lot so I might re-read it.
I too read it years ago and absolutely adored it. I didn't have the Butercup's Baby part -- The movie of course is wonderful - one of the best book to movie adaptations there are. April will be a great discussion month - two great books to talk about - I can't wait!!
I do want to find out more about Bast - and how he met Kvothe and why he is studying under him - to me that aspect is probably more compelling then some of the main line stuff. I don't care if I ever see Deanna again - though of course she will show up again.
Ambrose is a spoiled punk who we have seen many times before. The Chandrian are a much better/more interesting plot line. His attempt to kill Kvothe didn't really make him more sinister to me. You always get the sense that he really is no match for Kvothe so I don't really feel a real conflict here.
Great posting Viktoria - I can't keep them all straight. I do think Lorren will be an interesting character and something more will come of him - not sure yet what it will be feel it will be a surprise.
Elodin is a great character - Probably one of the best things in the book for me - I loved the whold jumping of the roof thing - that was great.
I'm one of the few people who are not jumping up and down for book 2 - I'll wait quite some time after it is out and only after reading about it on GoodReads before I decide to go on with the series - I DON'T want a repeat of book #1 which in my opinion ended very poorly.
I agree with Robin, I would have been much happier if Rothfuss would have "split" the book along the lines she did. LOL you can tell she edits ;-)
It would have made them more "self contained" and I would have definitely enjoyed it more. Of the three areas she metioned I think I did like the life at the University the best.
This is one of the parts of the book that I did really enjoy - I would like to know more about them but not sure if I'm willing to go through another disappointing ending to transition from book 2 to book 3 - I'm going to be listening on GoodReads to see what people think of book 2 to decide whether I spend my time to read further.
I think I really like the supporting characters most in this book. My favorites are:
The Chronicaller
Bast
The Professor who knows the name of the wind
I really don't like Denna at all. To me she is unsympathetic - I don't like the way she lives her life by sponging off men. She plus the ending is one of the reasons I'm not as "high" on this books as most people are. I would have preferred someone much more likable as a love interest.

I too had a problem with this book's ending - I did enjoy a lot of aspects of this book - though the love interest I have no interest in. It's a shame because there is a lot to like in it but ultimately the ending turned me off and I'm not all that excited about the second -- or I assume third (isn't it a trilogy?". I know a lot of people love it but I guess I just can't get over the dissapointment at how it ended.
2011 !! Oh my god how can you "hold out that long" - it must be hard being an author and waiting on a publisher's schedule.
Well sorry to hear you had to plit it up but I think in the long run this is better I generally don't like really long books (they take me too long to get through them) so I probably would be less likely to buy the 1200 page version. I will say though that I would prefer the books were written as a standalone. Leslie's doesn't bother me as much as Name of the Wind in how it ended, but still if I had my druthers I would want them a bit more seperated.
It was a nice book and I will definitely read the second one - though, sorry Leslie it will be a bit I read very slow and I have two books in progress and a few ahead of this. But in any case I liked it and want to read the others. There are three right? I think #2 just came out? When is #3?
I think the whole movie thing is such a double edged sword. How many of us can say that the movie was as good as the book? I would love to see one of the authors that are here on GoodReads get one of their books made into a movie that would be so great. We could go to it and tell people that "we knew them when".

This is one of the books I really dying to read - i can't wait for it to come out!
I would recommend:
The Crown Conspiracy
Mistborn The Final Empire
The Lord of the RingsThe Hobbit Or There and Back Again
Any of the Harry Potter books or Narnia Series
I'm reading The Lightning Thief and The Well of Ascension Mistborn, Book 2. Lightning thief is good though a bit too much on the YA side and well - is well great as expected.
This is exciting to see -But I want to wait until after I have read them then I'll go listen to the pod casts
I agree - the time between installments is important. Unless you are "late to the game" as I am with Mistborn - glad the other two are out. Both Leslie's Griffen series and Michaels Crown Conspiracy are coming out soon looks like the new kids are being more responsive then the more established writers.
