10915 I saw a lot of posts here but didn't read them all - has anyone read the new Sanderson release in the series - do you like it?

10915 Lol - my only exposure to this world was playing Ice Wind Dale the computer game - I don't remember it being very "memorable" hopefully the books are better.

The Book version of Howl's is much different then the animated movie version. Personally I liked the book better but I know many enjoyed the movie. It might be because I read the book first and as I mentioned the movie deviates from the original book.

I've read only one Nix - Sabriel and I enjoyed the way he did his female lead in that one.

I too liked McGonigall, but....Dundledore beat her out for me. I tend to be drawn toward male characters as a rule.

10915 I too read Hobbit first and thankfully didn't see the silly cartoon until years later - I really did not like it. I really enjoyed LOTR and its depth and sweeping tale is still one of my favorites - but Hobbit is a great thing to get you started into fantasy when you are young -- that's how it happened with me.

10915 This is one of my favorites - probably because it is what got me started - I've read it many times but looking at this as a good opportunity for a re-read.

10915 I'm a bit late in posting but we had supply problems. The book is now "officially" released and we have copies for sending out signed copies.

10915 I've done Kindle versions for all of Michael's books and I found them really easy to do. Most all author's start off in word and converting from word to .html (which Kindle uses) is VERY EASY.

I recently discovered Smashwords which makes all the various e-book formats (mobi, .lrf, etc) I don't have all the devices so not sure if there are any issues with them or not. But following their guidelines it was easy enough to do.

10915 Pauline wrote: "As much as I love Miyazaki, I definitely love the book better. Much more humor and a much more complex plot"

I'm with Pauline on this one - I liked the book better than the movie.

That is exactly how I felt about Johnathan Strange and Dr. Norell. It was a hard book to make it through and I felt that it was an accomplishment. I ultimately liked it but I'm not sure it was worth the effort for me.

10915 I too am very interested in the "present" thread. I'm afraid it will come in little pieces over the next two books - but what can you do.

10915 Kathy wrote: "But what about Min in Mistborn? Granted she uses metallurgy to kick male butt, but I don't think that's so completely odd in this particular world.

I think Mistborn did a great job of portraying a woman that holds her own in the physical department.

10915 Michael's third book is dedicated to Steven Gillick a friend of his who started a "chain book" back and forth where each would right a chapter etc. Steve tired of the exercise but it was the spark that eventually became Riyria.
