Christmas (27 new)

10907 Ha ha. I actually laughed out loud a couple of times. Great post rgb. Unfortunately, I think the only thing that will be on the bottom of my pillow tomorrow morning is the refreshing, cool side of the pillow.

10907 this "shes whining cuz shes getting picked on" thing is getting old.

That's what you do. I agree it is getting old, so stop doing it.

so rlly, ur predicted answer "cuz im a Christian" rlly dusn't answer the question.

That was the point. You never actually answer any questions.

I believe in Jesus and not Santa cuz i (when i was 5 or so) tried to believe in the Tooth Fairy. I put the tooth under my bed and went 2 sleep at 8 pm that nite. I woke up, no money. I concluded that either the TF missed me that day or he wasn't real. He's not.

Here's the problem. You concluded that if the Tooth Fairy wasn't real, Santa probably wasn't either. That was good. However, you should have also gone the extra step and concluded that Jesus isn't either.

Santa and Jesus both have the same amount of supporting evidence for their existence. There are a few stories about each that have been passed down verbally or in written texts. People make wild unsubstantiated claims about their abilities which are never confirmed or even supported by any evidence at all. They both have no evidence that suggests they exist. You still haven't answered the question. You say you have felt him. What does he feel like? How do you know it was him you felt and not Zeus? How do you know it was him you felt and not just a warm fuzzy feeling one gets when one feels hopeful about the future?

You gave Jesus a chance and he changed your life? How? Also, how do you know it was Jesus who changed your life and not Zeus?

10907 Ewww.... spit in the eye.... gross.

Seriously though, great post rgb.

10907 Hmmm... not too convincing. Clearly it doesn't state it anywhere in the Bible, so I have to wonder where exactly these people who are writing the articles are getting their information from. It doesn't seem to be a conclusion they could validly draw.

10907 Technically, he was born in the spring, but we celebrate it in December.

Out of curiosity, where did you obtain this information?

10907 I guess but like, when I was a kid I didn't believe in the Easter Bunny or Santa or anything, even though all my friends did.

Why didn't you? What was the reason you did not believe in Santa or the Easter Bunny despite the fact that your friends did?

10907 why do you believe any or all of these things, when there is no more evidence for Jesus than there is for Santa

My predicition of her answer: "Because I am a Christian."

Debating with her isn't too much about actually obtaining answers to valid questions. It's more about her whining that she is being picked on. But, better luck to you rgb on actually getting answers for your questuions. :-)

10907 Damn, that's one smart kid. Ha ha.

10907 Is it so bad for a kid around 5 or 7 to believe in Santa? No its not, and I was old enough to make my own.

What? Did you miss the entire point of the post? Well, it is obvious you did, so I'm not sure why I'm asking. It isn't bad for a 5 year old to believe in the nonsense of Santa, but it is bad for a 14 year old to do so. Just as it is bad for a 14 year old to believe in the nonsense of Jesus.

Anyway, the point of the post was that you clearly are not old enough to think for yourself at 6 or 7 because you also believe a fat man in a little coat hops down your chimney every December 24th to eat cookies and bring you gifts. Why do you believe this? Is it because you are making rational decisions? No. It is simply because someone told you it was true. This is the same reason you believe Jesus will get you into Heaven. It is especially due to this reason when you are 6 and 7 years old.

It says in the bible that if any one is mature enough to think for them self, they are old enough to under stand and make there choice.

First, point out the passage where it says this in the Bible. I'll be waiting because I doubt that it is in there.

Second, a 6 or 7 year old is not old enough to truly think for him or herself. That is quite obvious.

10907 Tell me how it works out.

Nothing happened. What the hell?
7 days ago, 07:10PM

10907 I was around 7 or 6 when my dad and mom told me about being a Christan and I was old enough to make my own Choice

At 7 or 6 if your parents told you that Santa really did shimmy down your chimney every Christmas Eve to bring you gifts, you would have believed that too (and perhaps you even did). You were not old enough to make your own choice at that age because you were not old enough to even understand what you would have been making a choice about.

10907 But you were being pointless w/ me, so what was the point in being serious? there was none.

You clearly understand absolutely nothing. The point with my post was clear. You claim Jesus is the one true god, and I hypothetically claim Zeus is. For you to say, in such an asinine way, that you know it is Jesus who answers your prayers is just as trustworthy a claim as me saying it is Zeus that answers your prayers. You saying stupid things like:I read the BIBLE, not whatever the ancient greeks read. I pray to God I worship God, therefore i know it's God, not zues isn't evidence that your belief is correct. It is simply you saying what you believe. Great for you, but it doesn't actually mean anything. The ancient Greeks believed in Zeus, you believe in Jesus. That statement is relatively worthless and your belief in Jesus is just as invalid as their belief in Zeus unless you actually have evidence that your belief is better than theirs. Do you? Where is the evidence that your belief is correct and their belief in Zeus was wrong?

I pose the question again: Why do you believe in Jesus as opposed to believing in Zeus?

10907 "A man's heart plans his course, but the Lord directs his steps."

So the good Lord directed my steps towards atheism? How strange of him.
7 days ago, 05:09PM

10907 Isn't that what you did nate? like, you were born into a Christian family but became aitheist?

Yes, but I certainly didn't make the choice when I was a small child as NSA suggested. The choice is made when one reaches an age where one is capable of weighing the evidence and seriously considering the alternatives.

10907 yes, well

good luck w/ that.

Wow, that took a long time for you to come back with that pointless response. How impressive. Perhaps you should just answer the original question. How do you know it is Jesus whispering in your ear and not Zeus?

10907 exept Christians have a desire to listen to and do what God wills them to do.

No, the Christian mind merely thinks it is listening to and doing what God wills it to do. The reality is that the Christian mind is merely listening to what the individual or members of the religious community wills it to do.

10907 I'm not sure about the Santa thing. I think I am against it, but not sure what I would do with kids. I should rephrase what I said. I never say Merry Christmas to people I don't know. I do say it to family members because I know that is what they celebrate. Random people I just say happy holidays to despite what they say to me first.
Christmas (27 new)
8 days ago, 02:31PM

10907 I keep considering what I'm going to do if I ever have kids. Celebrate? Don't? Call it Christmas? Who knows.

I will celebrate it and call it Christmas. First, Christmas is a day. Whether one is Christian or not, the 25th of December is Christmas. It's right there on the calendar. Just like whether someone is Jewish or not, particular days are still Hanukkah. Whether you like Martin Luther King Jr. or not, there is still a Martin Luther King Jr. day. I enjoy Christmas (buying presents, hanging around the pagan tree, getting together with family, etc), and I will celebrate it. I just won't pretend, as many often do, that it is an actual religious holiday. 95% of what most people do on Christmas has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus or religion at all. It is all that other good stuff that I do, and I leave the superstition out of it. As Jennifer pointed out, it's a hijacked holiday. Might as well celebrate it for what it is. A day to hang with family, eat good food, and open presents.

10907 When I was little I asked my dad how to get into heaven and he told me that I had to believe that Jesus died and rose again for me.

As J pointed out, you clearly didn't choose to be a Christian. The choice was forced on you by your parents telling you you needed to become one in order to avoid burning in Hell for eternity. Impressionable youth don't really have much of a choice when an authority figure (especially a parent) tells them they need to do a particular thing.

10907 I certainly have. I've missed the one Christian in this group that is capable of having an actual debate and not merely resorting to, "It's what I believe, so just leave me alone! WAHHHHH!"
