I sent Nicole Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill, No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, and The 13th by John Everson. I hope she enjoys them.
I disagree with #2. Horror doesn't have to contain supernatural or paranormal but can contain some basic real life situations that could occur. For instance comming home and every family member is brutally slaughtered...

I have all 3 here but have yet to read them. I look forward to spending some time in 2010 enjoying them.

A few that come to mind are Midnight on Mourn street by Christopher Conlon, The 13th by John Everson, and The Other by Thomas Tryon which I also started the year off with reading it. I would have to go with Midnight on Mourn Street but same may not seem it a typical horror book.
