I read Slob awhile back, and was not impressed at all...I felt like he was one of those authors who just opened a thesaurus and inserted the largest words he could find...
I was so certain I would actually like it that I paid $20 for that book as well...I learned now though.

YES! I have been obsessed with finding out where and when this is coming out since I heard about it a few days ago.
I can't find out anything about it though...just a really crappy trailer on Youtube. I love how everyone thinks it looks like, "the dumbest, grossest thing I've ever seen." I actually think it sounds pretty damn original for a horror film. I give them props for coming up with something like that.
I'm glad they are reissuing "The Bridge." I've been wanting to get my hands on some classic Skipp/Spector since I always hear how they are considered the founders of splatterpunk.
And I am also looking forward to "Scissors" from Garton. But no new Lee? :\ I know he is working on some releases for his independent publishers...but he DID release two Leisure books this year so...*shrug* I can't complain too much, hah.
I'm still looking...I have a feeling this is going to be one of those searches that may take months...:\ I hope when I DO find it, it's actually worth it haha.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one extremely disappointed with the movie version of Header...I have yet to get ahold of a copy of the book, but the movie was bloody awful. :\
Maybe it's the Britney Spears/Christina Aguilera slash fic I came across when I was 13 that ruined it for me but...it does creep me out, sorry. :\
I haven't read SOTL in years, but that scene sounds exactly like from the film Seven...then again, it borrowed loads of elements from SOTL as it is...
Oh God, that scene in Survivor was one of the very few I have ever had to put the book down for...it wasn't the most well-written book, but extremely effective...
Any of the sex scenes from American Psycho would qualify, I would think. At least the ones that take place later in the book, when Patrick brings power tools into the act hah...
Oh gosh, I am rather ashamed to admit I have written a bit of fan fiction. I know it is extremely frowned upon by the more serious of readers, but sometimes I get an idea after reading a particular book/seeing a film that I just need to get out. This was especially true with American Psycho, but I am actually rather proud of the fic I wrote for that haha.
But people who write stories about celebrities/real life people creep me out...I can see where ideas and fantasies arise from fictional characters, but NOT real people..
Thanks for the suggestions so far, guys. This is especially difficult since I haven't even read this book ever, I just simply became interested because of someone ELSE looking for it as well haha...
Oh, and just want to be sure: this book definitely isn't Richard Laymon's The Woods are Dark then, is it?
So I was browsing a LiveJournal community today called Disturbing Books (fitting, yes) and someone happened to post the follow from awhile back. (I just copied and pasted exactly what they wrote:)
I found a book about 10 years ago at the library that I cannot for the life of me remember the author or title of. It was a paperback, I don't remember what the cover looked like. I vaguely recall the plot having something to do with black magic/demons. There was a female character named Lucy that got tied up in the woods and had a holes drilled in her breasts with a power drill. There was also a scene where a couple literally ate each other out. Chewing through skin, meat, and bone. Those are the only things I clearly remember from the book. Well that and the fact that the copy I had checked out had all mention of the words god or Jesus crossed out by a previous reader. Silly, no? Any help finding out more information on this book would be greatly appreciated. I find myself thinking of it out of the blue every couple of years and would love to read it again.
No one was able to figure out what this book was on LJ, but now I am really interested in finding out what it was, so I was hoping someone on here might know. It sounds vaguely like Laymon's The Woods Are Dark (which I have not yet read) but the person said they didn't think that was it. I would be forever grateful if anyone can figure this out!
Oh, I loved Apeshit. In my top 3 most fucked up books ever, without a doubt. It somehow managed to be hilarious as well as atrociously vile.
I agree with some of the already posted:
Silence of the Lambs
The Exorcist
And others:
Rosemary's Baby
Carrie
Misery (I just can't get into anything SK writes...)
Into the Wild (mainly because of the imagery)
The Shining
Ones that were equal in quality to the book:
A Clockwork Orange
No Country for Old Men
How about a rat inserted into the vagina which has been smeared with cheese, and the rat has been starved for weeks, which of course attempts to eats its way through you. And then your body cut in half with a chainsaw to top it all off?
Oh, that Bret Easton Ellis is a creative one...:D
I live in a pretty small town, with lots of farmland and woods around...there's this backroad about 5 minutes from my house with this rundown farmhouse, with no one else around that's pretty damn creepy...My mom actually jokes that Leatherface lives there, so that should tell you it's creepy.
I remember my older brother, who always claims he is scared of nothing, had to walk on that backroad all alone at night one time and he said it was one of the scariest things he ever did.
I love how the conversations here are shifting between reality television and fast food...but you can draw a parallel between the two when you think about it hahaha.
Survivor: Australian Outback was my first taste of reality tv...I remember I was 10 when it aired...(Such a young un', I know) That was the only edition of Survivor I found worth watching...I even bought the box set, just because I found the group of contestants that time around so watchable...
And so that is the one and only reality T.V show I ever indulged in...oh, but I do have a dirty little secret: I somehow got drawn into buying all the Girls Next Door Box sets...0.o...
I know this movie gets alot of hate, not just for the violence but for the so-called plot holes and all, but I was personally blown away by it...as far as horror movie standards go, I mean. It was certainly better than any of the American garbage I have seen come out in the past decade...
To be frank, French horror is one of my secret obsessions. I think some of the better horror films that have come have been all foreign...
But back to Inside, although yes, there are a few obvious instances that are questionable, the realistic look and feel made up for those scenes...I found the gore to be extremely believable, which made it more horrifying. The first time I watched it, it instantly became one of the very few films that ever disturbed me.
The only bit I found laughable was when the crazy lady was burnt up at the end...somehow her appearance wasn't plausible...it seemed to turn a bit cheesy after that. But I also found the musical scores incredibly chilling...overall, I love this film. (And I'm watching it again right now since I haven't seen it for awhile hah.)
I really have to weed through the books when my library has a sale, but we had a "Bagful of Books for $5" sale the other month, and I got Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Coldheart Canyon in hardcover, and Geek Love and a few other paperbacks. I have such an immense wishlist of books it's usually a given I'll find something haha.
I've only read two from this genre so far, both by Mellick-Apeshit and The Menstruating Mall. I personally found Apeshit infinitely better, although it was more lacking in the bizzaro department, and bulkier on the gore/gross out factor. But it also had some WTF moments and hilarious scenes...I highly recommend it.
