1059 You all have read some great books lately. I really loved Eat, Pray, Love and I enjoyed The Time Traveller's Wife. I didn't mind Splendid Suns but for me it didn't even compare with The Kite Runner.

I'm currently reading Shantaram and although it's taking me a while to read because I can't seem to find the time at the moment I am caught up in this book, the people are amazing and really funny sometimes.

1059 Fireheart - what do you think of Angels? It's on my shelf to be read and I'd be interested to see what you think of it.

Suzanne - YBW is also on my shelf to be read, what do you think of it?

Tisha - it's brilliant!

1059 I read parts of the Snow White bit to my partner because I thought it was funny, so did he. But you guys are right, it did seem to sway from the rest of the book.

Good luck with your daughter, perhaps because this is a twist on stories she probably knew growing up she may enjoy it, I hope she does.

1059 Oh, dear, I liked the part with Snow White and the dwarves the best! Sorry, guys.

I've finished the book and to start with I loved it then once the cross over occurred I wasn't that sure about it. It was "okay" for me, not my usual type of reading. However, after thinking about it last night it did go up a notch as I could see all the lessons that are in the book and it really was quite well written, although the lessons weren't forthcoming whilst reading it. Sometimes books are like this for me, it takes me a while to appreciate them. A few others in another group are reading this with their kids, it will be one I'll bring out one day when I have kids and share with them, it would be fun.

1059 I'm reading The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly - has anyone read this?
May 13, 2008 05:01PM

1059 Finished this morning whilst eating breakfast, I just couldn't wait. A great story and one that kept me wanting to go back and just read another section and before I knew it I had been reading for an hour or two, I lost time which is fitting seeings the book I was reading.

1059 Great point, Tana, now that I think about it the whole back and forth thing works so well at keeping one's interest. I'm about 350 pages in now and I am trying to guess the ending but I have to just sit back and enjoy. Anyway, 9 times out of 10 my guesses on endings are completely wrong.

There are so many jumps in this book and characters, I hope that when they make the movie it's easy to follow - the movie could be fantastic or it could be just one big mess but I'll be going to see it anyway.

1059 Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd add this topic in, hope that's okay. I'm currently reading this book and would like to know what you all think about it if you are reading it as well.

I'm about 200 pages in and I'm just itching to get back there and read some more, unfortunately that horrible thing called work keeps getting in the way.

I'm thinking it would be very hard to live both Henry's and Clare's lives, is it better to be the one to travel or the one who stays behind? I think that's a very tough question.

1059 Hi everyone!!

I'm such a book-a-holic!! In the past 2 weeks I have bought about 30-40 books!! Lots of bargains in there though - she says this to justify it. After purchasing five books yesterday from the second hand store I said no more but if you've read about my splurge you know I didn't follow that order and ended up buying plenty at the salvos. Honestly I don't know what's wrong with me, I won't read them all even in a year but there's just something about walking into a bookstore. I think I'm truly an addict!!

1059 I'm reading The Time Traveler's Wife and so far so good, I sit here "working" and can't wait to get back to it. Look forward to discussing it with you all at some stage over the next couple of months.

1059 Last book I finished was Sunday at Tiffany's which was good once I relaxed into the story. Two previous books before that were On Chesil Beach, which was good, and For One More Day which was sooooooooo good.

1059 So those of you who know me from the next best bookclub know I have a wee bit of a problem - I buy books like they're going out of fashion!! I seriously have a problem.

I am sooo excited. I went out to get some petrol and rolls for lunch and thought I'd swing past my salvation army store - thanks to all the kind people in TNBB who brought to my attention that salvos are a great place to shop!! My goodness, I will be visiting that store again and again and again and you know what, I don't have to feel bad about spending heaps of money because all of the below I got for $36.75!!! I couldn't believe it!! Now I know I won't get around to reading them all in the near future but that's okay, some of these books were just too good not to buy and hey, I'll get around to them eventually. I seriously have to rethink my book storage situation now though. So here goes:

White Oleander - Janet Fitch
The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married - Marian Keyes
About a Boy - Nick Hornby
Spellbound - Jane Green
Babyhood - Paul Reiser

All in one book by James Herbert:
Moon
Shine
The Dark
Fluke

And now these last ones were only $4.25 each and they're leather bound with gold paper and on the spine they all say Treasury of World Masterpieces, there's four of them:

Charles Dickens which includes:
Oliver Twist
Great Expectations
A Tale of Two Cities

Mark Twain which includes:
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
The Prince and the Pauper
Pudd'nhead Wilson
Short Stories
A Connecticut Yankee at King Arthur's Court

Edgar Allan Poe which includes:
The Complete Tales of Mystery and Imagination
The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym
The Raven and Other Poems

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle which includes:
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes
The Return of Sherlock Holmes
A Study in Scarlet
The Sign of Four
The Hound of Baskervilles

Can you believe that?!?!?! Honestly I feel like I've won the lottery or something. When I came home I was smiling and my partner was like, "Oh, no, more books," but after I told him what it cost and he saw the last four books especially he agrees it was a great purchase. Ah, I still haven't come down off my high and that was over 2 hours ago now.

1059 Finished "Nothing to Lose" by Lee Child this morning, not one of his best, which I am loathe to say because his books are the best, still a good story, just not as page turny as his other books. Still can't wait until the next one though!
Apr 21, 2008 05:24PM

1059 I've read both and didn't enjoy Suns as much as Kite Runner, maybe because I read Kite Runner first, I'm not sure. Other people I know prefer Suns though so I guess it all depends on taste, mood, etc.

1059 I loved the movie. The majority has subtitles which add to the feel of it and I think it was a good adaptation from novel to movie. It's not the big Hollywood blockbuster with the really famous actors but I think it's worth a watch.

1059 Finally I am reading Nothing to Lose by Lee Child after waiting a couple of weeks to buy it. A little slow to start but it's getting interesting now. Not as good as his previous books so far but I'm not that far into it. I love Lee Child's books!!!

1059 I read this last year and absolutely loved it. Can't wait to see what you all think.
