1059 Actually it's Sue Grafton who has the alphabet series (Kinsey Millhone) & Janet Evanovich has a number series (Stephanie Plum). I enjoy both, though the early alphabet books are better than the newer ones. The last one (T is for Trespass) was kind of boring. I also enjoy the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, the Discworld series by Pratchett, Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton (the first 9 were fantastic, but it went downhill after that), Carrie Vaughn's Kitty & the Midnight Hour series, Harry Potter, the Burgler Who series by Lawrence Block, & more that I can't think of right now.

1059 Charity -

Sorry, didn't catch your other message until now. Thanks for the link, I'll definitely check out the Grandview Library.

I don't understand how Columbus could rank #1 for library systems. They have NOTHING.

Thanks for the heads up about Half Price - they probably already hired someone, but it doesn't hurt to check. :)

1059 I absolutely love Good Omens. As soon as my cousin's done reading my copy, I'm going to re-read it; it's been over a year since I read it last & that must be remedied. :)

Right now I'm just reading textbooks. *sigh* Getting a quality education is cutting into my reading time. . .

1059 I need an actual book. I can't read online for too long, it gives me a headache. Besides, books are just too cool to get rid of - you find all kinds of things in used books & new books smell like heaven - who would want to lose that?

1059 Happy Hour of the Damned by Mark Henry. It wasn't very good. Possibly because I really don't like zombies (I picked it up because the blurb made it sound interesting), possibly because the women were all. . . stupid, irritating, shallow, ignorant, & all around badly written. There were a few good one-liners, but it wasn't really worth my time. . . .

1059 I used to work at Half Price as well, though I'm from the Cleveland area (just down here for OSU), so I worked up there. Down here, I go to the Lane store & the one on High Street, though not often because I always buy something. I'm actually hoping one of them is hiring, I need a job & Half Price was by far the best job I've ever had (plus I get that fantastic discount). My favorite library is up in the Cleveland area as well, I grew up in that library. It's about 30 miles away from where my parents currently live (which is about 20 miles away from Cleveland), so I don't go out there very often, but most of the librarians still remember me! I love that place! Plenty of happy memories. :)

I love The Book Loft! I've only been there once. It's the kind of place I need money for. Lots of money (just like Half Price).

I count the entire Columbus Metropolitan Library system as crap. I had much better luck with the Clevenet library system up north. I've found a few branches that I like because of atmosphere ect, but a lot of the time I can't find what I'm looking for. Though the main library is beautiful! I've only been in there once, but it's a cool building (though, again, I think the Cleveland Library is prettier. I like Cleveland a lot more than I thought I did!)

1059 Neil Gaiman! Neil Gaiman!

Though I also enjoy Terry Pratchett, Tolkien, Jim Butcher, Kim Harrison, Poe, Janet Evanovich, Stephen King, & Homer. I loved Laurell K. Hamilton's EARLY work, but I haven't liked her for the past few years.

But mostly Neil Gaiman. :)

1059 Textbooks!

I'm currently reading about Archaeozoology in my Principles of Archaeology book (actually QUITE interesting!). Early Hominins in my Understanding Human Evolution book (most boring textbok EVER written!). And Native North Americans in my Images of the Past book (again, quite interesting). And Spanish. Ugh.

During Spring Break, I plan on re-reading the Harry Potter series & finishing Planet Earth by Fothergill & Divine by Blood by PC Cast.

1059 I can read anywhere. But I'm most comfortable in a nice chair, in bed, or flat on the floor with a pillow. As for noise, it depends on what it is. If Star Wars is on in the background, I'm not going to read. If a documentary on hotdog manufacture is on, I can read just fine. If I'm in bed, I have music on, it doesn't distract me. I've been known to read & watch TV/a movie at the same time, but I usually end up accidently re-reading paragraphs a few times when I do that.

1059 My favorite library is the one I grew up with. They're a small town library & they always had what I wanted. After they joined up with the other libraries in a new (well, new in the 1990's) exchange system it was even better. My current local library sucks, they never have anything I want. *sigh*

My favorite bookstore is Half Price Books. Though any used bookstore is wonderful. I can't afford Barnes & Noble ect, but I enjoy going in for the "new book smell" & to browse for new authors or new books from authors I already like/love. :)
1059 I worked at a used bookstore & we had to throw some books away (usually due to condition, some stuff wasn't even good enough for donate) because it was just too expensive to recycle. From a business point of view I could understand it, but I still hated it.

I sell my (unread) stuff. Then if I decide later that I want to read it, I get it at the library. Really the only time I end up with a bunch of books I've never read is if someone's having a fantastic sale. 95% of the time, I only buy stuff I've already read & want to read forever.

1059 I just started Soulless by LG Burbank. I'm literally on page 1. The story sounds cool (Egyptian vampires, from what I gather). I'll let you know how it goes. :)
