I did sign up for the pcrm.org challenge. I wanted to join along with you. I don't know why I was thinking it was a McDougall challenge. Good luck everyone.Becky
Hi healthy eaters,I did really well this month, mainly because I went back to work.:) I have lost 15 pounds at Weight Watchers after my weigh in today. I have been a member since April so it has worked for me. I could be on maintenance now but want to try to lose another 10. I signed up for the McDougal challenge so I will be interested in seeing his ideas on the email. W. Watchers is also starting a program for the next month or so that for every pound lost, they give food to the hungry. It is a great inspiration to lose weight and do some good. You are also invited to donate as much weight in food at the end of the challenge as you have lost. Let's all keep up the good work and keep it up through the holiday months ahead.

Entertainment Weekly (being the fine literary magazine that it is:), is claiming a book called This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper is a shoe-in for book of the year. It looks interesting although I haven't heard of the author. He has written previous novels including How to Talk to a Widower and Plan B. Have any of you heard of him? Sadly, they also gave South of Broad by Pat Conroy a C. I hope they are wrong as I'm looking forward to reading this when I get it on hold from the library.

I have the one called Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I really like it as it has three workouts and you start at number one and can advance as you like. Each one is only 20 minutes but has cardio, strength and abs. I did the first one yesterday and I am also sore but think it was a great workout. I have Bob's Weight Loss Yoga and I am going to do that today. I hope to do yoga one day and then Jillian's video rotating. Becky
Alias asked, "Do you post on WW?"I don't post on WW but I do read it from time to time. It is good for motivation. It is funny you mention the oil. I don't worry about getting it in but will cook my veggies on the grill with olive oil brushed on them. Our receptionist at our meeting just came in last week and talked about how on vacation she asked the waitress to bring her oil so she could drink it! I had never even thought of that. I must say she is in great shape and has kept her weight off for years and definitely follows the plan but of course not sure how her arteries are taking that!
I have read Dean Ornish's books. I think that is great that you can follow his program. I don't eat much meat either but do from time to time.
Today I am going to do a Jillian Michaels video that I have since it is raining outside. Keep up the good work everyone.

Hi Healthy Eaters!I always like to report in at the end of the month and hear how everyone is doing. For myself, I have been in Weight Watchers for 14 weeks now. I have lost 12.5 pounds but July was not the best month. I went on several vacations and had lots of friends visiting so with the one pound lost, one gained back pattern, this month it ended up being only a one pound loss. I know that normally it would have meant a gain but with Weight Watchers I always get right back on the program after a day of eating that ends up being a few points over. I did try to make the best choices and to limit my portion sizes on eating my birthday cake and vacation treats.
I am out of coupons so I am going to join the monthly pass today and am motivated to keep going with the healthy choices this month. We have cucumbers, green peppers, squash, tomatoes and lots of other great stuff in our garden so I have no excuse to not get in my veggies. I love to cook them on the grill so it makes for a tasty side dish.
I bought five neat water bottles that hook together in the fridge to remind me to drink at least one a day. Here's to a great month of August of eating well and enjoying the last nice days to get in the outside exercise. Who's with me?!

Jan, I am reading "A is for Alibi" for the first time. It is hard to believe that I have never read any of her books but I came across the A and B books at a garage sale so I decided to give it a go. I am certainly not planning, at this point, to get through the whole alphabet but depending on how they go, I may pick them up between other books.

I noticed that Time Traveler's Wife and Julie and Julia are both coming out as movies. I am excited to see them as I read both of these books. I watched Revolutionary Road last night and I think I liked the movie better than the book. It followed the book closely and I enjoyed watching it played out on the screen.Becky
I read Light in August when it was an Oprah pick. I don't remember much about it so it must not have been my favorite. :)Becky
It looks like a lot of us read the same books this month. I was just looking for some light summer reading and I certainly got that.July Reads:
Dune Road-Jane Green 3 stars
I was very disappointed in this book also and I probably won't read more of hers. I had read her earlier books and had enjoyed them but I think she has run out of fresh ideas.
Fixer-Upper-Mary Kay Adams 4 stars
I liked this better than most people that have reviewed it so far. I hadn't read her books before and it was just a fun summer read for me.
The Girls from Ames Iowa-3 stars
The parts of this book that I enjoyed were the stories of their high school years. They graduated the same year that I did so it was fun to remember some of the things that were popular during that time.
Commencement-Courtney Sullivan 3 stars
This is a new book about four girls who went to college together and continue to be friends the rest of their lives. It had some interesting characters but the switching back and forth through time could have been done better.
Methland:The Death and Life of a Small Town- Nick Reding 3.5 stars
I decided to read one fiction book at the end of the month. This is a true story about a reporter who reports on a small town in Iowa and how the economy adds to the other reasons that Meth becomes such a problem in this town. It was very interesting and informative and it also follows several people who either sell, become addicted and how it affects the whole town. I will never complain about having to get my Sudafed behind the counter again!
Next up-
Once a Runner-John L. Parker
A is for Alibi-Sue Grafton
I have been watching also. I keep waiting for someone to like or root for this season. Seeing Dan come back for the veto competition just reminded me how I was really rooting for him last time. I guess Ronnie just kept Laura up since she seems to guess what he is up to and tells the others. Hope I don't have to start rooting for Jesse :).Becky
I went on a trip to Colorado last weekend. My girlfriend and I spent time in Denver, hiked in Estes Park and stayed with her relatives in Ft. Collins. We drove 30 miles north of Ft. Collins and also visited my two sons and husband and her son at Boy Scout Camp. It was great to get in the mountains again and to get some great shopping in. We are both into scrapbooking so we hit some major stores and did lots of damage to the wallet.Becky
Hi Alias,I read Wishful Drinking but I didn't care for it at all. I think the play would be interesting though. I can't imagine how she would put it on as a play but maybe she just talks about it by herself. I think it would be better to hear her in person than read her book.

I just looked up South of Broad at our library and it all ready has 23 holds so guess the word is out!Becky
I will expect this site to be really slow the next few days as I know most of you will be traveling to Neverland to get in the line to view Michael Jackson's body. :) (Isn't this taking it a bit too far?)Becky
How did everyone do with their goals in June? My goal was to add more exercise and I did get my bike out and ride it the other day. My husband and I have been walking every night at 9 PM when it is really cool out and I have been enjoying that. We are lucky that we have a double-lane, cement bike path right by our house. It goes on for miles and tunnels under the roads. It really makes the walk or ride enjoyable. One thing Weight Watchers has really made me aware of is fiber. I found some whole grain, english muffins with double fiber that are really good. I also eat the Kashi cereal most mornings.
Sadly, strawberry season is over here for my garden but I put them to good use and really enjoyed them while they lasted.

I watched the 2001 Masterpiece Theatre's version of Anna Karenina on DVD this weekend. I really loved it and thought it was well done. I read the book when it was an Oprah pick but the movie really refreshed my memory of the characters and story line. It would have really been shocking had I not known the ending! Count Vronsky was played by Kevin McKidd. I only know him from playing the doctor on Grey's Anatomy who is back from the war. He really has changed and I wouldn't have known it was him if I hadn't recognized the name.
No, she did not get rid of Wes who supposedly has a girlfriend. They had one of the guys she kicked off come back and try to convince her that he had a girlfriend but she still continues to give him a rose. I suspect he will last until the last few shows to keep people watching. He is a country music singer who admits that he is just on tv to get famous.Becky
I always try to stay away but I seem to get caught up in it every summer. My favorite is still the evil Dr. Will. Is anyone wasting their time watching the Bachelorette? I got hooked on it again and I can't decide which guy I like. They had the "most dramatic rose ceremony ever" again last night!Becky
How was the Michael Malone book. He is a favorite of mine. How was the Evanovich book? It was 1 of the 4 I p/u last weekend, and have not gotten to it yet.
Hi Richiesheff and Leslie,
I am going to have to research how to quote people in my comments as I have yet to figure that out.
I thought the Evanovich was one of the better ones she has done in awhile. Lula is getting shot at and Stephanie goes to work for Ranger so I enjoyed it as a fun summer read. It probably depends on if you are a Morelli or Ranger fan. I like Ranger best so I enjoyed it better than the last few.
I liked the Michael Malone book but I would have enjoyed it a lot more if he would have edited out about 150 pages. It was really long and an interesting story but goes back and forth in time and I found some parts better than others or I should say more interesting to me. This is the first one of his books I have read so I would definitely give another one of his a try.
I got the new Jane Green book called Dune Road at the library today so I will be starting that. I read White Teeth a few years ago so I will have to pass on the discussion this time but I'm looking forward to reading The Mockingbird next month.
I am sorry to hear about Dr. Nielsen as I had not heard about her cancer coming back and I read her book.
Becky
