How interesting "Men Who Hate Women". Probably that wouldn't sell too well in the US. JMHO However it is a title that is truer to the novel. I found myself wondering why it was called TGWTDT. Not that she wasn't a main character, but so was he.

PS> Next time we nominate books, maybe we ought to not consider very new or very popular books since it can be hard for some to get them from the Library?
We used to make a point of watching out for that. I think I was just lucky to get it from my library relatively quickly.
Barbara
Well in this case I think the "bumblers" were the drug research people who promised that they could deliver a certain amount of vaccine in a specific length of time. If they had fullfilled the promise we wouldn't be arguing about who gets it first. JMHO
As to Fraud. Fraud is brought to us in the billing process and this happens even in private insurance.
I am a firm believer in strict regulation of most things and this also goes against the grain of certain political groups who have the fantasy that any kind of business can self-regulate. It is after all another type of business.
No I am not worrying about what is going to happen to Medicare. And clearly AARP wouldn't be endorsing the bill if they were worried about Medicare. One of the problems in NY in regard to Medicare is that Counties are required to pay a high percentage of the cost. It is not done the same way in every state and the Feds have different funding going in different states. Highly unfair. That does need to be fixed.
While there is Medicare fraud it reminds me of the old stories about people receiving food stamps who were going to the supermarket wearing fur coats. Really -- give me a break.
You have Bernie Madoff doing major stock fraud and nobody thinks that they are going to shut down the stock market.
The sky is falling. The sky is falling.

ROFL --
Yes as they say -- moving on.
I think of Judith Light when I think of Wit as she was the original on stage although I didn't see her. I am always good for a serious play so we shall see how it is to read it. Not getting to the library again until next week.

Thank you Deb for contributing to the economy. Even stingy me has done some spending lately. LOL
Have a great time!!
Barbara
Ok and now we have a comment about government sponsored health care. Am I supposed to let that pass? I actually have government sponsored health care -- it is called Medicare. And our military has government sponsored health care too.
I will just stop here because as I said I am trying to avoid toxicity and certainly when I come to my book board.
Barbara
I thoroughly agree with you Alias. And I also agreed with your position. But as you probably can tell from some of people's posts from time to time as it related to books that we were reading we are not all of one mind on religion or politics.
I, for one, have worked very hard -- harder than you might realize -- to refrain from expressing opinions or responding to posts that I have sometimes found offensive. And even in the past have considered not posting anymore. (not since we have been on Goodreads, if anybody cares) Just trying to avoid toxicity in my life.
I personally don't care what you may post.
Barbara
Yes, we do try not to get into religion or politics. And in the spirit of expressing that we don't all have to agree on everything except our love of books may I say that we have this wonderful "thing" in our country. It is called Freedom of Speech. So even though I don't agree with the opinion expressed by Osteen I will fight for the death for his right to say it.
Onward!!
Barbara
My kids were math happy and believe me I didn't give them much help. So it may just be personal ability.
We can't all be good at everything. But something tells me that in general you were not a failure at school.
Barbara
And Bill Cosby and for that matter the President get criticized for saying that parents need to be accountable. I never noticed that they say that the parents have to tutor the kids but that they need to make sure the work is done. Oh so true.
Years ago when they started teaching the "new math" plenty of us who were educated were relatively clueless. So what!!
Barbara
I have never noticed that Whoopie gave a darn about how she dresses.
As to the "flu" -- I have noticed over the years that when people have a bad cold and are feeling lousy they say they have the flu when they don't understand that it is not the flu. If you really have the flu and it doesn't have to be H1N1 you are sick as a dog and there is no question about going out.
And thanks for the link to speak out about Osteen.

I have just read the questions and am a bit out of focus. So with a big spoiler warning I shall begin.
SPOILER
Was posting my review and I was thinking about the question of -- why is the book titled after Lisbeth rather than Mikeal? I have no clear answer other than it creates more curiousity.
Of course without her stunning ability as to photographic memory and computer skills the mystery wouldn't have been solved.
There is an underlying story about her being sent to a mental ward as a child. I found that fascinating. And it also relates to her propensity for "going too far" as she feels that nobody will believe her when it comes to her guardian and she will wind up incarcerated yet again. I understand from some other material that TV shows are being made of the three books. I can only wonder how they will deal with these issues.
I think that Mikael is more ethical than many. We are human after all. I am interested in your reactions to what is clearly a "looser" society. Or are they really looser in Sweden or just more honest about it given our Puritan roots.
Anita was an incredible friend. There is no question about that.
Honestly I agree with the decision not to publish the Vanger history. Perhaps in my historic focus I would ask if I could publish it after Harriet's death. So put in a Safe Deposit box with instructions after death -- both Mikael's and Harriet. His job really was to find the answer to the Harriet mystery. He did that.
I think Lisbeth once again went to far in the Wennerstrom situation. I think she felt that he was going to get away with it. But a normal person would not have acted in that way. IMO
I was not terribly happy with the ending although it would have been asking too much for Lisbeth to change her personality. She doesn't know how to interact socially and couldn't deal with Mikael's "relationship."

Yes, I have just finished GWTDT but haven't had the chance or concentration to post just yet. Maybe tomorrow morning.
I read it faster than I expected. Kind of rough in places but I did like this book.
My only complaint -- it would have helped if I knew more about Sweden.
Barbara
I definitely missed the original "V" but I was browsing in the TV section that comes with my newspaper and saw this. I used to watch StarTrek and was more into SciFi at one time and was thinking about picking up on this.
I'll let you know if I catch it.
Barbara
I saw something about ALEUT STORY. I have to go look at my guide and see if I can find it.
And no -- nobody has a better voice than Martin Sheen.
Barbara
Later at night and clearly by accident I caught Robert Caro at an event that had to do with writing of biography. I just love him.
He said at the end of his talk -- I guess I went on a little long. But if I could do it short I wouldn't have written 1000 page books. Thought it was delightful.
Even though I come from NYC area I must admit that his NYC accent can be overwhelming. LOL
Barbara
Thanks for the reminder to read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. I'll add it to my list.
We have a lot of Indian tribes in NYState -- the tribes of the Iroquois Nation -- and we used to teach NY State History in 7th Grade. They may still but I'm not in touch with that now. Anyway -- I did have a lot of material at one time.
There is a wonderful museum of Indian culture down across from Battery Park in NYC. It is fairly new. And it has something else to recommend it -- as it is part of the Smithsonian it is free. A rare thing in NYC. LOL

I realize that I haven't seen much of the new season. So I am used to the usual face. I'm sorry to hear that she has had a face lift.
