10252 Donna, what is a stuffed ham? What is the stuffing? And how is it done?

My husband thought my gravy was delicious, but asked me why it was not dark. He remembers his mother's, which she made dark by adding something called Gravy Master. Mine is certainly not white, because I browned the roux, but it is not dark brown either! LOL

I looked this up online and found that you can add 1/8 tsp of instant coffee to gravy to make it darker. Do not think I will be trying that.

10252 Kate, I am glad you managed to handle things with your usual diplomacy....adjustment IS the key. I try to do that when everyone is here, and things get loud and messy. I know I can deal with the messy part later.

Donna, I made my gravy this morning from the stock I bought at the butcher's.....and it is DELICIOUS. And easy. Last night I made the stuffing and cranberry-orange relish. I was going to make do-ahead mashed potatoes, but I have no more room in my fridge. As it is, my fresh turkey breast is in my sister's extra refrigerator....she is only two minutes away. My husband went to the orchard this AM and got the pies, so half of my menu is already done.

10252 Deborah, I used to watch AT THE MOVIES but not recently. I just looked it up online (and you can watch the archives online) but the time that is posted for my local network is not valid, according to my on-screen guide. GRRRR

10252 I am looking forward to seeing Blind Side, the story of Michael Oher, who plays for the Baltimore Ravens. I heard that Sandra Bullock is very good, and the story is so heartwarming.

My husband got his SAG magazine today, and there are so many ads for movies that will open soon...and I have not heard of many of them...I am so out of it! Here are some:

Me too. Mya has the personality of a door.

I loved Donny's dance tonight when he was wearing silver. He is fun to watch. And Kelly has made such progress...but she still sometimes looks awkward to me.

I agree with what you said about too many "no names" this season.

Sounds like a plan! Last weekend, I took 111 books (including a few audios) to the collection place for our Friends of the Library book sale. Many of these were books which I never finished. They were just taking up valuable space in my home, and surely someone will love them!

10252 Deborah, about accents. I always chuckle that when Simon Biker (on The Mentalist) says "Stay tuned for scenes from next week's show"...he says it in his normal Australian speech.

Well, a guy is coming to do the template for my new kitchen counters, so I thought I should get dressed. And then I am spending the afternoon "playing" with a friend...lunch, shopping, etc. You know, while the cat's away.....

10252 My husband goes to Laura's tomorrow at noon (he takes care of Charlie Monday and Tuesday) and I have no plans to get out of my nightgown until Monday morning! I plan to have dinner and wine in my nightie. Is that decadent or what?

Sounds like heaven to me.

I could not stand the Seinfeld show. To me, it was just a bunch of ....nothing.

10252 Deborah, I agree that Kevin will probably not be able to immerse himself in the competition. I was reading about some of those who competed last year and none of them owned their own restaurants like Kevin does.
10252 I agree that Romano is not much of an actor..his monotone drives me nuts, but I did like his show.

And I love Andre Braugher- especially in that great one-year series, Gideon's Crossing in 2000. He is one fine actor.
10252 Donna, thanks from me too for the heads-up on THE CLOSER episodes. Love that show and wondered why its season ended in mid-stride, so to speak. Guess TNT decided to show the last three seasonal episodes in December.

Ah ha...just looked it up and I was right...these are the last three episodes from last season, never shown

10252 I think Baba loves being in the limelight and being a "boss"/in control. The few times I have watched the VIEW in recent years, I cringe at some things she says and does...so embarrassing and undignified.

She has no real family...and I do not think she is all that welcomed by her daughter.

Donna, she is exactly 80.

10252 I have trouble with the brothers' names too, Deborah. I decided tonight that even though both are obnoxious, I think Michael is the worst. Of course, I am sure that some of the obnoxiousness is due to editing.

The only way I decided the above about Michael was by rewinding the recording repeatedly.

Tom C's blog explained something I did not understand when watching tonight's show. He wrote " Kevin did not win the spot itself, to cook for America in the next Bocuse d’Or. He won one of the coveted few spots to compete for that spot."

Here is his blog
http://www.bravotv.com/top-chef/blogs/to...

There's a lot of interesting info in the blog entry about the Bocuse d’Or and about Thomas Keller....why he was not at the judges' table, for one thing...

10252 Alias, I saw "Bye Bye Birdie" with its original Broadway cast.... loved it.

The small city in which I grew up was a "tryout" city for Broadways shows and I saw lots of them when I was young. I only knew later how fortunate I was.

10252 RNOCEAN wrote: "Shaking my head........I would pick maybe 5 on that list as 'potential' classics. "Eat, Pray and Love"? Give me a break, I threw that book across the room after I read it."

I did the same ---- but after only 20 pages!

10252 Deborah, I never even knew there was a SLEUTH channel!
10252 I was looking up the TV ratings for last week and was shocked to see that NCIS was #1 on the list. Who would thunk? I mean, I like it, but I did not know that 21 million others did, too!

I saw that CBS is reversing the times for COLD CASE and THREE RIVERS to see if THREE RIVERS does better. Don't these people realize that the ratings for this show are not great because no one ever knows what time it will be on due to Sunday afternoon football?
