"I wish that every person who reads this board would make a New Year's resolution to leave two good bookish posts each week. It astounds me how many people visit here, day after day, and hardly ever post. To be honest, I find it very discouraging."
I can only speak for myself, but I find any message boards outside of AOL to be too cumbersome and much less easy to read.
That, and I just can't visit so many websites per day. I'm pretty much addicted to Facebook and Twitter, and between those and email, I just can't take on any more sites on a regular basis.
Good luck with your surgery, JoAnn. I look forward to the lists every year and have saved them since 2006.
I may have to put that one on reserve too. I haven't read any Wally Lamb, mostly because they have all be BFBs and I tend not to read those! 1964 is the year I saw the Beatles, so it sounds like it might be right up my alley....
I hope I have the right folder!
Does anyone read purely holiday-themed books this time of year? I have started early this year with
The Gift
I have 5 other books I got from paperbackswap.com to read, as well as another book from the library on reserve.
Do any of you have any Christmas/holiday favorites?
I think one of mine is A Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg. And A Christmas Visitor by David Saperstein.
by Katherine Valentine I've liked other KV books better. This one involves a group of women quilters at the local Catholic church who try to help the current priest figure out the haunting at the rectory which has resulted in several priests fleeing and one found dead. 4/5
Heart and Soul by Maeve Binchy. I've liked other of her books better as well. The beginning was captivating, but after the first background story of one of the employees of the clinic, it didn't seem to get into any depth of characters. Still very readable. 4/5
Pills for Parents in Pain/Prescriptions for the Headaches & Heartaches of Parenting Lee Ezell I found this book by accident at a rummage sale. It seemed to jump off the shelf and into my hands and was exactly the book I've been looking for. Finally a pep talk to help me realize that I'm responsible TO my teenagers not FOR them. 5/5
House and Home by Kathleen McCleary Even though the main character got a bit annoying after awhile...just how many times can you say you don't want to move, and then contrive some big (illegal) plan in order to stay there. Of course, everything comes out in the end. Still a good Memorial Day weekend "beach" read. 4/5
No bullying, no Trench Coat Mafia, no "girl who said yes" but those rumors, once started, took on lives of their own.,
Really? I didn't know that! Looks like a book I'm going to have to read.

How was this? I saw it for a quarter at a rummage sale today and almost picked it up, but didn't because I have SO many books already to be read.

I just picked this up from the library today...large print, 670some pages! I'm glad it's good, but I have to finish a current read first.
My April reads:
Handle With Care, Jodie Picoult 4/5
Show Me the Way, Henri Nouwen 4/5
Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, don't remember the two authors names 3/5
Life Expectancy, Dean Koontz 5/5
Show Me the Way was a Lenten daily devotional book and I enjoyed it very much. Made me think about the season.
Life Expectancy was one of those unplanned reads. I found it on someone's bookshelf on paperbackswap and the synopsis sounded good. And it was. Fast-moving, thrilling and lots of dry humor in it.
JoAnn/QuAppelle wrote:If you are not loving it by now, I doubt if the ending will redeem it for you. Not everyone likes this kind of book. And sometimes a book just does not live up to our expectations. I think that happens a lot.
I think that might be it...I've heard so many good things about it and it's not living up to the expectations. But really, it is getting better!
JoAnn/QuAppelle wrote:Oh, Nancy, you are sooo lucky to be just reading this wonderful book. I hope you like it. I am waiting for another that I like as much!
Well, I'm finding it a bit boring...I'm about 2/3 done. I'm hoping the ending is really good...

Oh wow!!! It couldn't be simpler than that, could it? Thanks for pointing out something that was right under my nose and I missed it!!!
I was notified that The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society is waiting for me to pick up at the library, so I will finally be reading that!

I discovered that you have to put book:title in between the brackets. So, before your title, write "book" and then the colon. Hope this helps!
Awesome...it worked, AND I'm amazed at how much information comes up about the book. Thanks for this info JoAnn!

Same way I felt about it! I read it last summer while on vacation because my 17 year old daughter read it and loved it. It definitely was written for teens, all the way down to the simple sentences and lack of description. My daughter has read the series twice...think she's on her third time. I won't read any more!

Not really! I still have to scroll down to find the last one that I read...if I read them backwards like that, then sometimes someone will be answering something from a post I haven't read yet.
This is what has kept me from yahoo groups, and several other message boards that I've tried through the years.
