Very true, but sometimes some people don't know when to stop. And others think they can handle the debate, when they can't. All a matter of whether or not they are secure enough in their faith. Definitley not the thing for a baby Christian to run right into off the bat by choice.
Well, it helps you further your faith and know how to stand up for what you believe in, even if you feel like you go in circles. Which I'm sure they think the same about us. :D I don't mind it as long as it doesn't get ugly and rude. Which Nathan is pretty good about unless he gets attacked. Plus, the fact of teenagers versus adults doesn't help.
And as for talking to God and Him not responding, well it's all a matter of truely listening. Don't expect the answer you would want. Above all you should desire what God wants. There's a verse in proverbs that I memorized to help me be patient when God is silent(which means He's waiting for our trust and faith in Him and He may be saying wait.)"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." You focus on Christ and build your relationship with Him like any other relationship in your life and it will become somewhat easier. Remember that God answers all prayers with a yes, no, or wait. Even if we don't like the answers God has our best interest in mind. I can attest to that fact after being a Christian for almost 19 years. It's a continual growth in your walk with Christ.
Jehovah is another name for God. It's used more in the Old Testament, but there are several Christians today that use the same term.
Gotcha! I agree with your last paragraph. The most important thing is belief that Christ is our Savior. That's the heart of the gospel. Thanks for explaining.
"When He prayed to God, in John 17:9-11, 20-23, He explained how He is "one" with the Father and we may be one with them.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is our Savior. I think you will find Acts 2:36 to be interesting as well.
So, I do not believe that Jehovah (or Jesus) is God the Father. Again, I do not want to debate with anyone in here. I'm only answering a question that was presented according to my beliefs."
I'm confused on this part because you quote scripture where He says He is one with the Father and yet you state that He isn't God the Father? Just wondering. The Trinity in itself is an essential part of the gospel,or at least to me it is.
Yeah, I just think that the praying to himself is the example of his human side coming out. It just shows the human side of who Christ is to us as Christians. But I get what you mean. I knew jehova is a translation of God's name. Not many people outside the Jewish faith use it though. I used to go to a Nondenominational church for a couple of years. I loved it!
I've heard of Melissa Scott. I'll have to check it
out.
I totally agree with you on organized religion. It is the devils playing field. That's why I don't just take whatever my pastor or even my parents tell me as the gospel truth. I go study for myself. And believe me, there are some conclusion that I've come to that I totally disagree about with my parents and even my pastor at times. I just think it's a matter of discernment and God will reveal what He wants to reveal about his character. Now, I'm the one rambling!
Well, I can try to explain it. I've heard it explained two ways and they both make sense to me. There's the three leaf clover explanation...each leaf is a representation of the trinity. They are a leaf by themselves, but when the come together they are still a clover. Just like all three parts of the trinity are God...God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. My favorite is the explanation of a boiled egg...you have a shell, yolk, and the white part of the egg. It's still an egg, no matter what. Jesus was fully human/Fully God. Jesus sent us the Holy ,like you said, to be our comforter and counselor here on earth. God the Father is the creator like you stated. If you read Genesis 1:26 it states "let US make man in our own image" So Jesus was in the beginning as well. It was just when it was time for him to be born of a virgin and to take on God in the flesh, that it becomes most important as you pointed out. His sacrifice on the cross is the ultimate I love you gift to everyone.
And, I'm sure Nathan may rip apart my post as usual. :D He doesn't believe God exist so he likes to debate with us Christians.
By the way, are you Jewish or Methodist or Baptist? Just wondering. I guess Jewish since you referred to God as Jehova, but I could be totally wrong!
Yeah, this group is dead. If you go the group that Nathan and I are in you'll get more feedback. It's the I live for Jesus and Jesus alone group http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1090...
I'm just saying he won't take that as credible. I clearly see your point, and agree. Just letting you know he will take apart your post and explain why it is logically wrong. Nathan and I have had discussions about religion before and it gets very interesting. :D
He won't take Josephus as a credible source because it's speculation...just saying :D Someone's tried in on another thread in another group.
I see your point and it's great to have a heart for that. My passion is for kids, especially those who have no voice or are the "underdogs" in society. I can handel a "glob of cells",as you put it, being analyzed and researched for medicinal purposes more than I can just because you don't want to have a child, or you have an unplanned pregnancy. I respect your view too and can totally see the benefits of research. Not every Christian is close-minded
I agree about your view with Cloning. I've always thought it was ridiculous.
As for invitro, I realize that they destroy embryos with the pregnancies. Am I strongly opposed to it? No. But I don't like how it destroys so many embryos with the process, just like I don't like what stem cell research does to them. Your money is better used trying to find homes for orphans who need a parent than trying to get pregnant through invitro and destroying more embryos in the process. But, people will use any kinds of method they want to get pregnant if they want a child that badly.
Stem cell research is just one of those things that can have benefits even if I don't completely agree with all of it. And it may be that some people have to become Ok with an embryo being destroyed to save lives or find a cure. It's one of those things I struggle with. I know Good can come out of it, but I don't like what it involves. But, that's life in general!
It's a fine line to walk. On one hand you want cures to be found and the money to be provided, but on the other hand you don't want unethical things to happen. If you are purely fertilizing the eggs for research and not for those who are coming in for in-vitro so that they can have a child, then that in my opinion is wrong. And I've heard some people argue that it brings cloning into the picture.
Plus we can't possibly know everything about what Adult stem cells can and can't do. They have just started looking into it and it has really taken off since 2005. It takes years for science to figure out cures for diseases, ect... But, with today's economy like it is, I don't see how they can promise to fund things without going into more debt and making the American people pay more for the research, ect..
I'm not against stem cell research, just don't do it on the fertilized embryo. They have found that you can do the same thing with Adult stem cells, so why not use those instead, or try "blank" embryonic stem cells. It's not fertilized and wouldn't be seen as killing a human life. Life begins at conception.
I'm Baptist too, but I don't see what's wrong with it. Yeah, it's debating about what you believe in, but God can use anything. And if someone like Nathan is willing to come to find out what we believe and why we believe it, then who are we to say no? Technically, we shouldn't have a problem because regardless of what happens God is still God and will prove Himself one way or another. He doesn't need us to debate for him, but sometimes telling others what you believe and why can help them understand. So, don't look at it as a debate, but them questioning you. It tends to strengthen your faith or show you weaknesses in your beliefs when it does happen. Just wanted to point that out to everyone, and not trying to be rude or a know-it-all.
