I agree that the section on the book page should display books on all group shelves by default. If we can't have the currently-reading-shelf filter in the section itself, perhaps it can go on the page that comes up after you click "more books" in the "Groups with this book" section, for example on pages like this.
On each book page there is a section called "Groups with this book". I wonder if we can filter this to display only groups with the book on their "currently-reading" shelf.
Often, the books my groups are currently reading don't coincide with the books I currently have, so I often can't participate in the group discussion. I think it would be great if I could see which groups are reading the same book I'm currently reading myself, so I can probably join the group and participate in their discussion.
I've been tidying up the Indonesian awards using this new feature, and I'm wondering if the winner/nominee checkbox can be replaced by a dropdown box that contains:1. Winner
2. Nominee
3. Shortlist
4. Longlist
5. 2nd Place
6. 3rd Place
7. Honorable Mention
Number 5-7 is for competitions. There are several prestigious literary competitions in Indonesia and I think it is important to mention these in the book information page. Thanks.
There are also awards for translation, which applies to the translated edition of a book. For example, I believe the Indonesian translation of Karen Armstrong's The History of God was given an award some time ago.
I wonder if it is possible to add the publisher's name for each edition in the View Editions page. I know Indonesian users use this page to find and switch to the Indonesian translation of the books they read. The problem is, it's not always easy to determine which edition is the Indonesian translation, as some Indonesian editions use the original English titles. Although this can be determined through the ISBN, I think it would be easier for users if the name of the publishers are displayed.
I never meant that longer reviews must be summaries. I apologize if I implied that in my posting. I just wanted to come up with a solution that push down long plot-summary reviews, but I guess real reviews with no votes would get pushed down, too. After some thought, I don't think my idea is a good one either! :-) On to the next idea!
Lisa, I think that that happens with or without the threshold I mentioned. A threshold is meant to push down reviews that contain only plot summary--which tend to be longer than most "real" reviews--by taking out the length factor above the threshold. I think other factors can still be included, be it votes or date of reviews or anything else.
I like Katelyn's idea. So perhaps you can have a threshold of, say, 250 words. Reviews that have more than 250 words are sorted only by the number of votes. So a 1000-word review with no votes would appear below a 251-word review with one vote.
Ah, I understand what's going on now. The official website of the Indonesian publisher cited the author of this Indonesian version as "Stephanie H. Meyer", even though the name printed on the cover itself is "Stephenie Meyer". No wonder people keep changing it to "Stephanie H. Meyer"!I left a note in the book description of the Indonesian version.
Can we combine authors now? If so, how?
I see that this edition of Twilight, which cited Stephanie A. Meyer as its author, is combined with other Twilight editions written by Stephenie Meyer.
As we usually say in Indonesia: may you both live happily together into your golden years...
Congrats!
Right now, when people click "add as a friend" from someone's profile, there is an optional "add a message" box. I think it would be a great help in screening people if there is an option to make the "add a message" box a requirement. Even better if we can leave a personalized note before the message box.
I've tried the challenge question feature, requiring them to find the answer in my profile, so that they would read there that I'd like them to fill in that message box if they'd like to become friends with me. But it doesn't work. People still add me as friend without leaving me any message.
Of course I can always decline their friend requests, but I'm afraid that I might offend people. I can't remember every single person I've met on the internet.
I'm sorry, I meant that after "sorting" a shelf by ratings or number of reviews, I'd like to be able to fix this sort order so that it is reflected in the order numbers, and then I can fine-tune it with the little arrows. That way, I don't have to order the shelf from scratch.
I don't like to read reviews of a book before I actually read the book (I hate spoilers in any degree), so GR friends reviews can't really help me much in finding new books. That's why I like Amazon's recommendations. I don't have to read any reviews. I just buy whatever Amazon recommends and dive in blindly, and mostly I've been pleasantly surprised.
I think it would be great for authors if they can receive an update or notification if a goodreads user rates or reviews their books, regardless the user is a goodreads friend or not.
