Tricia, Go to your account. Go to notifications.Send me new reviews from friends: (configure)
That's what you'll see at the top of the page. The configure for me is after the drop down menu/mine says batched daily.
Click on the (configure) link and you'll see the options there.
Can you find it now?
Otis wrote: "Has anyone tried the new friend update email settings? Do they work? I don't want to try as I don't want to miss friends' books :)"Where are they? I want to make sure that I'm getting everything. It seems as though I may not be getting all updates. Thanks.
Amy, Well then you've posted in the right folder. Hopefully a Goodreads staff employee member will be able to figure it out for you and help you.
Amy, I'd go into your membership section of that one group and look at your settings there. You might not be subscribed to receive the daily digest or some other form of email from them. Since it's just one group, that would be my first guess.
Stephen, It's very easy to tell if you've voted. When you go to the review, if you've voted the "yes" is grayed out; if you haven't voted the "yes" is blue.
Tricia, true. Most of the people I know do have multiple personal email accounts so I think this workaround could work for many, but I'm sure you're not alone in having only one email and wanting to keep it that way. It is strange actually that I couldn't use the same email. I'd have preferred to use the same one. Hopefully, being able to subscribe to our own updates will become a feature. If enough members ask for it and it's possible to implement, I'm sure Goodreads will find a way.
I made a dummy account last night. No hassle except that I had to use a different email address from the one for my real Goodreads account (which is strange because different people can and do often share one email address) but I have lots of email addresses so it's not that big a deal for me.I made the account, friended the fake member, set the fake member's account to private, signed out of the fake account. I'll never have to sign back in. I set it to get my friends' updates. So I'll get my own updates at the other email address. End of hassle, in my opinion. (The dummy account will simply be inert. I'll see my own updates as my GR friends do.)
However, I'd rather it be a feature too. If it ever is, I'll opt in and delete the dummy account. (I now have one more friend than I actually have.)
Bill,Go to the book and click on edit (edit your review.) From that page, right to the right of the stars in grayed out letters it says clear. Click on the clear link, and the stars will be unchecked.
Ann,I don't know much about Excel but we can download our Goodreads records to our computer and open them in an Excel document.
Go to my books, scroll down and click on import/export, then click on export to a csv file, and your Goodreads data will get exported to your computer.
Ah, yes. I have yet to use the new Edition field so I keep forgetting about it.I'm glad for the reminder too. I'll have to remember to take a look at it and use it!
JG, I've been on Goodreads so much today (no surprise) I'd forgotten that "old" post. You're right of course, so that does relieve any guilt I was feeling. Thanks for reminding me. I love seeing all activity so I'll opt in for all friends/those I'm following activities I can get.
This makes the most sense so thank you.My poor friends though. Some like to see my to-reads so more of them will be going to my feed, I'm afraid.
Hmm. I haven't checked out the book swap feature that carefully but if these are the stats:* requests made
* books sent
* books received
it doesn't show how many books are offered. There may be many offered but nobody has requested them yet. Those who are concerned about "fairness" should care about how many books are offered, not just how many have been sent.
Jessica, I think it's what Otis just said. I don't think it's what you said. I hope not because I compare books with members all the time and I hope they're not getting emails because of my doing that!
Otis wrote: "The "Let's compare books" email means that person had you in their yahoo/gmail/aol/hotmail address book and invited you through that."Otis, You've said this before but every single time I've gotten the Let's compare book message friends request, they've been complete strangers. Since I don't use my real name on the site, even if they'd gotten my email address somehow, which doesn't contain my real name either, they wouldn't have found me here because of it. Something else must be going on with these requests, I think.
