I like this setting...the play-by-play updates when I read a book, add a book in my TBR list, etc. It's much better than people who put things like "I just brushed my teeth" as their status in FB.

1 As much as I hate reading bad, annoying so-called-reviews, I prefer to only have the "yes" option.

If a "no" option is to be applied, then the user could be obliged to provide his/her explanation why. And/or might be better if only the reviewer could see the amount of "no" he/she gets. For self-improvement sake, I guess.

1 oh my...thank for this. I'm not very handy in inserting html codes so this really helps. I wonder if next time a link to discussion/thread can also be included in this definitely nifty feature.

1 I agree with you, Otis.
More (honest) details is probably the best solution.
Maybe some feature addition in "edit my review"?

All in all, I think people still have the ability to judge whether one review really suits them or not and not easily fooled by it. Let 'em do the thinking by themselves.

1 here they are:

Some links when opened they go straight to GR, some just don't. See the http address in the lower side of this picture:

when opened, it goes like this:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b323/C...
nothing appeared on the screen.

hope that helps.

1 Great to hear that, Otis, thanks ;)
If it's according to my wish, new posts should only be in the threads that I have posted in.
Thus, the summarized messages in the daily digest could be shorter. I myself do not mind having new post in a digest a day later.

I'm thinking aloud here about another alternative. What about thread subscription?
Sometimes I did not post anything in some threads but I would like to keep track on the discussions. However, I can subscribe to them, using again the group daily digest.

from each group menu: my membership --> group digest email --> there are options to select which threads for subscription, anywhere in the group.

or to make it simple...just put some tickboxes beside/inside the threads, for us to mark if we want to subscribe, just like "add to my update feed" box below. automatically, the daily digest will only include the updated ticked threads.

Comments are welcome.

1 I wonder if we can customize the group digest based on the thread(s) in which we have posted messages.

1 Shelfari is nice, but unfortunately not as nice/userfriendly as Goodreads.

The page is loading too long, we cannot enter the books manually, etc etc.

The nice thing about it is the book recommendation feature: "shall i read this?".

librarything is my first book site, too bad after 200 books you have to pay (or making a second user id).

goodreads so far is still the best.

1 lol@the above post.

you cannot prevent people like that.

worry not, most people here are really serious about books.

how about people talking about other than books? I mean, if it's about movies (from books) or other relevant topics, it's very much understandable.

but how about completely OOT discussions? shall the admins/mods curb those or what? I still think OOT discussions are inevitable, but 'education' to prevent those are still needed.

just my two cents.

Answering the question above in message #1, I am happy to meet people (esp. from my own country) who are really committed in reading and establishing a Goodreads community with various activities. New friends with similar interests should be treasured, no? ;)
1 I concur with Lisa's suggesion. There should be a kind of briefing or something, just a one-pager maybe. I've seen members who only adds comics in their list, whilst I'm still not sure (even after reading the above conversations) whether comics can be included as book or not.

1 Can we just drag the book to put it in the wished position?

Clicking the books one by one is not very practical, IMO.

Anyway, thanks GR! Another praiseworthy development.
