I think the three categories you've drawn make sense, as does this proposed policy decision.
I'm very glad we don't have the thumbs down capability here. If you disagree with a review, it's more constructive to voice your countering opinion in the comment field.
Chiming in to say that I too have noticed the J.C. Penney ads, which seem to keep popping up over reviews I'm reading or writing. Very annoying!
Any word on whether this is being looked at? I'm sorry to press, but since I almost always use the review view, this bug is making it very difficult to use my shelves in the normal fashion. Thanks, as always, for your efforts.
My default setting for my shelves is the one that shows "reviews," and I just noticed something a little odd. Normally, the first three lines of the reviews show, with a little "more" link. Now huge sections of the reviews are showing - upwards of fifty lines! This makes the page very long, so I hope it's an error...?
Thanks, Rivka. I'm not seeing the link, but I'm sure that will be fixed, going forward. More importantly, I seem not to be seeing the larger point. I have trouble understanding how groups that are currently active list so far behind those that haven't been active in months.
Am I missing something? I've just checked out the listing for Anne of Green Gables, and one of the groups I moderate, the Kindred Spirits group, is no longer showing up as a group shelving this title, nor do I see a link to get to "more." Am I looking in the wrong place? I really feel that any kind of "reading now" option should be secondary, for what it's worth - something that can be clicked. Start with the general, and move to the specific.
Yes, I think the idea of being able to search for groups reading a particular group is a good one. I just don't think achieving that by only making certain groups appear in that section of the book page is the way to go. Sorry if I was unclear. What if there were some kind of button - to find groups currently reading this book? No idea how difficult that would be to implement...
I thought she was referring to the book page itself, not the shelves in a group. Or am I misunderstanding that? I'm saying that all the groups who have a particular book shelved should appear, on the book page, in the "Groups with this book" section. That way, someone who is looking at the book page, who has never even heard of Group X, will discover a new group...
While I think it would be great to establish a feature that allows the goodreader to discover which groups are reading the same book she is, at any given moment, I have to disagree with the idea that "Groups with this book" should only show groups currently reading. Knowing that a group has a particular book shelved - even if they're not reading it at that moment - is very useful. It lets the reader know that there is a group focusing on the topics and books in which she is interested.

OK, I've just changed the group name (which it let me do), and realized that I misunderstood the problem. It does indeed let me enter the whole name, which appears, when looking at the group from the groups page. But the title cuts off, on the group home-page itself. Any way to fix this? I'd love for the complete title to show, on the group's homepage.
Otis, this is the group in question:http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/2711...
We wanted the group name to be A Thrilling Term At Goodreads: The Girls' School-Story Group, but when I entered the entire name, it cut-off, on the group-page. Did I just not do it right?
I agree with Lena. I find it very frustrating to type in titles, and have the exact match list last! This has happened more than once.
Hi Otis & Co: I was wondering if it would be possible to increase the character-limit on group names. I've just recently created a new group, and after consultation with members, we had settled upon a name, only to discover that it was too long. We cut it by one word, and discovered that it fit, save for the last letter. Can we get that limit increased, even if only by a bit? Thanks for considering this!
I'd like to second this request. It's really aggravating to have to delete the incorrect name first, and then re-enter. The ability to edit secondary authors would be greatly appreciated!Regarding "reader" vs. "narrator," I think we should stick with one, for consistency's sake. My vote is with "narrator."
A recitation of the entire plot of a book usually isn't that interesting, but a good review usually does include something about the plot, in my experience. Still, different strokes...
