I've recently started to include a summary at the beginning just because I read a ton of UF and frankly, if I don't have something about the plot of a given book it tends to blur together. However, I also make sure I put a spoiler warning on anything that's more in-depth than what can be found on the back of the book. I feel bad about it sometimes since there are days I'll send out multiple reviews which I knew will just show up as containing spoilers.

But I had to start adding summaries after I read some of my old reviews responding to events in the books and couldn't remember what actually happened in the book.

I also try and say what I liked or didn't like. I don't think I always succeed, but I do try. The exception is for anthologies with comics (Penny Arcade, Get Fuzzy, etc) then I usually have a line about whether it amused me or not but there's not much else to say.

That's true. I'm having the problem across multiple computers though. There's another computer I'm going to try installing FF on tonight, I suppose I can do one add-on at a time and see what happens.

It looks like maybe it is an add-on issue. It seems to be behaving appropriately in safe mode. Thanks for the help!

That seems to have cured the problem! Guess its' time to start disabling add-ons one by one. Thanks for the help!

Thanks Catherine! I'm in safe mode now. I could ignore a book rec, let's see what happens when I reply to this.

On a side note, I've had to accept 10 -15 advertising cookies just to look at 3 different things on the site. I'm afraid to say no in case that's part of my problem.
Sep 03, 2009 04:33PM

1 No, but I'm sure I can find it on Mozilla's site. I'll try that, thanks!

1 I can't ignore book recommendations either.

An add on conflict is always possible, although I haven't added or updated anything since before the problem began.

I have Adlock Plus 1.1.1
Advertising Cookie Opt-Out 1.1
AVG Safesearch 8.5
Flagfox 3.3.15
IE Tab 1.5.20090525
Undo Closed Tabs Button 3.5.1

1 3.5.2

I've had the problem(s) on multiple computers.

1 I'm having a couple of issues with FF in discussion threads. Sometimes when I hit reply it doesn't quote any text of the post I'm replying to and acts like it's a stand alone comment.

I can't edit or delete my comments in FF. If I hit delete it asks if I want to delete the comment. I tell it yes, but nothing happens. If I try to edit a comment I can get the comment in the comment section, but the original comment will remain in place and this edited comment will follow it.

I can take care of editing and deleting if I open goodreads in an IE tab within FF but I'd like to avoid doing that if possible.

In the category of feature or bug, whenever I respond to a comment (again in FF) I'm taken back to my home page when it's been posted. I don't want to go to my home page. Most of the time I have other comments I want to read or respond to in the same thread, or I want to go back to the thread list or group page, not the home page. If I just hit back in my browser then I get my comment posted and a comment box with that same comment already inside. I get the same thing if I hit refresh. This has developed within the last 4-5 days.

Am I the only one?

Thanks in advance.

1 If it's empty stars and you're unable to rate things, I've also had that resolve. Sometimes it takes a few hours. I generally use FF, but sometimes, opening it in IE (even an IE tab in FF) clears it up.

1 Yay! Much better! Thank you very much!
Aug 25, 2009 04:09PM

1 Are they empty stars or a blank space?

1 ::Headdesk:: I'm an idiot. Thank you.

Oddly, they were organized by date read even though none of them had such a date.

Thanks for the help!

1 My to-read books are seriously out of order. Here are the first 10 on 100 per page view:

3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 19, 20,

page 2

1, 2, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 27.

page 3

18, 34, 50, 66, 82, 98, 114, 130, 148, 162

I have 213 books on my to-read shelf. I believe at one point there was an option to manually number books but I've never done that.

Not a big priority, it's been this way as long as I can remember but thought I'd finally mention it.

1 Anna wrote: "I got a question. How can I compare my books with someone else's books, when that person has like 100 books read, but only 20 are rated? I mean without going through the shelves or the booklist."

I believe all the books you have in common show up when you click on compare books. If s/he has marked it read but not rated it then you just see blank stars.

1 Otis wrote: "But I think we can improve this by allow you to easily search & add shelves.

Would it be possible to do that but still show all the possible shelves on the my books or read page. I like to compare the number of books on various shelves and that was much easier to do when I could see them at one time.

Or maybe just create a page where you can go to see all the shelves at once.

1 I just noticed the same problem.

1 I also miss the old style.
