I'm having the same problem. On the Goodreads application page for Facebook, I've unchecked Reviews, Comments and Trivias for being added to my Facebook Feed. But, I'm still getting the page I am on in a current book showing up on Facebook. It also says that posting goodreads.com updates to my Facebook feed is Enabled and that I can disable it by going to the Facebook Applications page. However, when I get there, I can't see any way to do it. Any ideas?
I like having goodreads accessible as a tab for my reading friends. However, putting everything on my feed, for my nonreading friends, is a bit much.
And, there seem to be millions of those seventh graders putting on Speak questions. They only post a few, so that skipping all of one person's questions doesn't solve the problem. They also aren't taking the quiz themselves, just posting questions.
I'm not sure, Jennifer, but there is a mom-like woman talking. I will check the next time I see one. That is definitely an irritating result. I have a pretty fast connection now so I didn't notice.
I should add that the ads don't seem to talk unless you click the play button, but they are distracting to me anyway--maybe I'm more ADD than the average person here.
Now, there are talking ads which seems like a low blow when you are trying to concentrate. Any chance of getting rid of those?
Oops! I just deleted a couple of those. Should I just leave them from now on? I also deleted the question "Who Wrote the Bible?" The possible answers included "Somebody", "Everybody" and two more. The answer was supposed to be Somebody. And, another question I deleted concerned which was the best series, Harry Potter or two others. Are those both appropriate deletes? I gave my reasons in the Flag comment box.
Michael, thanks for the information about the ads. They are not a problem for me at all except for the occasional moving or animated ones.
I wouldn't want to have the skip all questions setting persist between goodreads sessions. The eternal optimist in me thinks that the questions might get better the next time.
Thanks, Otis. I haven't seen any moving ones since I wrote that note. Hopefully, the jumping dog is gone.
I totally understand the need for ads on this site. They pay for a wonderful place. However, the recent moving ads are driving me crazy. They really distract from my concentration when I am reading notes in a book group. I was trying to train myself not to look but the recent "Hot dog!" ad that has a little bull terrier jumping up and down is impossible. Is there anything that can be done about restricting animation in these things? No movement at all would be the best.
Thanks, Michael. I knew how to do that, but when I went back, I noticed the small Flag option and took care of the two spoiler questions.
I'm a bit addicted to this Trivia game and I'm generally not a game player. So, thanks to everyone for all of the effort.
I've noticed a couple of questions recently that contained spoilers but had forgotten that there was an actual rule about that. How do I go back and flag a question later? All I could find was a place to see editing history.
This is one of my favorite new changes in goodreads. The book clubs are my priority so this makes a huge difference. Thank you!!
This is definitely a cool new feature, but, like Grumpus, I would love to have an alternative for audibooks. For now, I will do as Dottie suggested and put it in the comment section.
And, I also second the request from Grumpus to have a listing for narrators of audiobooks.
On the My Friend Amy booksite, they are voting for best blogs and booksites. goodreads is nominated for best community book site. You can vote on the following page, just scroll down toward the bottom for the book community vote:
