1 That one has popped up for me a couple times, too...it's obnoxious and purple, right? I *hate* those ads that pop up like that (no matter what site I'm on)!
Over-riding Ads (2 new)

1 I wasn't sure where to send this, so posting it here...I came across an ad tonight that over-rides the GR code - what I mean is that I clicked on "add to shelves" and got the popup, but the ad stayed even on top of the popup. As well, it expands to take up nearly the width of my screen if I roll over it.

I don't have a screenshot of it doing either thing, but the ad is for Tetley Red Tea.

1 Can't wait to see what you're up to, Michael!

1 Thanks, JG...that will definitely help me find what I'm looking for.

I was just thinking that since there is a space for books to have literary awards listed in their descriptions, it would be awesome if that linked somewhere.

For example...I'm looking at Middlesex, I see that it won the Pulitzer for fiction in 2003. If that was linked, I could see a list of other books that also have won the Pulitzer.

I guess similar to how we see a book by an author and can see the rest of their works...click on the award and find other books & authors that have won the same award.

1 That's an awesome idea, Lori...I'd be all over that. It would really help me get my challenges in order, too...

1 It would be cool if there was a place in the "books" tab/area that we could look through books which have won (or been shortlisted) for the various awards out there... :)

1 I like to know when I read a book...I keep track by the exact day. I may be weird in that way, I'm not sure (I'm weird in lots of other ways, so it's entirely possible, lol). I love being able to say to a person "oh, I read that book x months ago" or whatever. Again, maybe weird, lol...

Also, I never re-read a book, unless it's by accident (but then if it is by accident, I stop reading once I realize I've read it before, lol).

1 Another point about the editions is that GR gets the book info from Amazon (and the Amazons of other countries) - so if Amazon has hardcover, kindle, trade paperback, mass market paperback, audio, etc...all of those will show up here, along with different languages (if searched for) and different covers (because many times the covers are different in different countries). Then we librarians go through regularly and clean it up and combine them.

1 Oh, and I ditto Susanna about being able to have sorts for different shelves automatically. It makes me bonkers to have to switch between "date added" (for my to-read and other shelves) and "date read" (for my read shelf).

1 Filters, filters, filters...I've been asking for this for over a year, lol. I neeeeed it desperately!

I'd also like a way to see books on my list by goodreads authors (I guess I could just start a shelf for GR authors, but the other would be cooler, lol).

1 That would be pretty cool! I don't have to worry about scrolling through too many, since most giveaways don't go to Canada, but it would make it easier to find ones that interest me.

The problem with that would be that those doing the giveaway would be responsible for correctly marking the genre or category. It could potentially become like an eBay situation where they put it in a million categories that it doesn't fit just to get more views.

1 I don't use BookCrossing, but I do use BookMooch...it would be really cool to integrate them somehow.

1 Both of those would be awesome features!
Apr 06, 2009 11:39AM

1 Yes, I'd love to see something like that!! I read one book at a time, and I always pick another book immediately after marking a book as "read" so I don't get that automatic text on my profile/homepage, lol!
1 OK, I had no idea you could see that in the groups bookshelves! Very cool!

At the very least it would be cool to have (above the progress bars) the book data with the average rating from the group members. Though the bar graph idea sounds cool, too! :)

1 Just a suggestion to add a field to the First Reads entries for phone numbers.

I recently had a book sent to me through Purolator and since I only have a PO box, the depot had to go through the phonebook trying to get ahold of me by calling everyone in the area with the same last name (which is a common one). I had no idea that it was going to be sent via Purolator, and I doubt that they are normally, but having a phone number field could help in these situations.

Just a suggestion! :)

1 Is there a way to block some features here? I'm not particularly interested in "events" because 99.9% of the time the events I get invited to are not in my area, and so I have to go in and mark all of them as "ignore". I know I can turn the emails off, and I will do that...but the red (1 new) on the side of my home page makes me crazy until I remove it by removing them all.

Would it be possible to just disable features we know we won't be utilizing? Or somehow block members from inviting us to things?

No offense to any of my friends who have invited me to things...I have "attended" a couple of online events but mostly I don't or I forget to check them out afterwards.

Anyway, just a suggestion...not incredibly important but just wanted to throw it out there.
1 Oh thanks, Molly...I'll do it that way from now on! Learned my something new for today, lol!
Reviewer tag? (8 new)
Jan 23, 2009 10:20AM

1 I thought we were all considered "reviewers" and depending on how often you review, or the number of reviews you have written (instead of just star ratings) bumps you up in the list. I've never done anything to become a "top reviewer" but there I am at 33 as a top reviewer and 17 as a best reviewer (according to my profile, anyway).

Anyway, I just assumed that it was something that the site figured out based on the things I do on here?
1 Did the pop-up disappear for anyone else? It's not showing up anytime I add a book for the last several days. I find it annoying to have to refresh the page to put it on other shelves. It did pop up once randomly but 99% of the time, it's not there.

I wish there was a way we could turn this option on or off depending on each person's preferences...
