1 I guess so. I'm not sure how I did it or how to turn them off again and I don't really want to. I meant to come back and post. It was an unfortunate coincidence on that first one. The images have continued to appear, but the width has fit into my browser every day since. I don't mind the images; I just didn't like having to scroll across to read. No complaints!

1 Today for the first time, the group digest arrived in my email with images. I'm not sure if I changed a setting or this is a new feature. This also marks the first time I've had to scroll across to read the digest. My two cents: I'm not a fan.

1 I tried using listopia for awards before, but it didn't work out like I'd hoped. Thank you for making Awards!
1 Thanks for the message. I checked the last two books I combined and they both seem okay. Phew!

I'm using it for that, too. I had friended a bookstore which is not in my area and was inundated by invitations to its events, now I switched to following it and hope that will eliminate the feeling of missing out.

1 Good old Y2K netted the computer software firm I used to work for a modest bundle. We all got surf and turf on the company. Don't mock it.

Indeed. Ah, the trials and tribulations of dealing with people-and that's over the internet. Talking to people in real life is even worse. ;)

I think I got the same invitation. It asked if I was a writer as well as a reader. He or she had a favorite author listed, but no books shelved whatsoever. I ignored it. I'm not in the habit of "friending" unknown individuals, especially those don't appear to want to share their opinions on books.

I have that! (This is before I got it. You can see it in the store window behind me.)

1 Were you surprised by the response to The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference?

Or given the nature of your work, did you anticipate it?

1 ...for being so wonderfully addictive that I actually opened a window to time.gov to check to see when the time for reopening would occur. I became alarmed when it did not come promptly. Thank me for my patience, indeed. What patience?

1 I told my school & public librarians about goodreads and I'm sure it was in one ear and out the other. I'm with Sherri. Something tangible would be great.

1 Since that last discussion to which Michael posted a link, I failed at my read > to read goal and I'm okay with that and a little put off that anyone besides myself would even notice (not to mention care?) I love being able to keep a list of to-reads. It has greatly eased my library, bookstore and Amazon browsing time. For example, I used to spend a lot of time browsing my library's online catalog before making a list, ordering by call number, and picking up. Now I just look at my to-reads, make a list, look up the call numbers and pick up. Another example, I can select a few books from my to-reads I think are likely to be at my local used bookseller and call ahead or visit the desk to see what they might have. My to-read list might seem lengthy to others, but it is reasonable to me. I don't add books to the list which are not books I intend to read. My to-reads may take me five to ten years (depending on available reading time), but that puts me in a more secure place as a reader than hmmmm...what should I read next?

Also, I am aware that my modest amount of shelved books is probably not what is troubling other users. I just felt a wee bit defensive I guess.

1 I read that article also. I read a few blogs on reading and belong to a few groups here. I like the way Constant Reader does their book discussions. They utilize the "discuss this book" feature which allows me to subscribe to the discussion and I don't miss anything if I neglect to revisit the page. It's not an idea really, I just wish more individuals and groups would use that feature. I'd rather take part in a dialogue than give or read reviews.

1 Ha. Yes, I am rather untrustworthy of those who pose as "friends." They are likely to steal the combination to my locker and expose all my secrets.

1 I applaud your responsible parenting, Rivka. I cringe when I think at the things American children are exposed to nowadays. (Is it just as shady elsewhere?) If I had children, I would probably not allow access to television at all and closely supervise access to other media. The excuse of "I don't know about computers" is not acceptable. I don't know about firearms, but I'm not going to let my child figure them out on his or her own.
