The problem is that it takes a lot more space, and there really isn't space on this page (topic pages). ps. On a mac you can hold down apple-up/down to go to the top or bottom.
Thanks for all the feedback Jamie - much appreciated! An easier way to know when you get a reply on a thread/ an easier way to follow a thread to see if there has been any activity on a thread you've been on...
This is coming in the next 3-5 months in a new notifications feed. In the meantime the "unread" folder of any group is what I use.
better FAQ of how things work on Goodreads--new members having a hard time getting the hang of things
This page might be what you're looking for, but it could probably be made better, and easier to find: http://www.goodreads.com/about/how_it_wo...
On the group page having a list for the biggest groups on goodreads, the most active, in addition to the new and recently updated groups.
We have all these - are they not easy to find?
A better way for moderators to message people
To keep a lid on spam I'm not sure if we can do more here. Messaging in the topics and group broadcasts are what you'll probably have to use - but we are open to suggestions!
Unless this publisher was soliciting sales on Goodreads, I'm not sure what role Goodreads would have in things. They can remove users who are not following the rules, but I don't see where they would interfere with 3rd party transactions conducted offsite.Agreed. How was this transaction found and conducted?
Nothing is broken or insecure, it's just we never added password verification to the group topic pages for secret groups. Perhaps we should to be consistent?
Tomorrow I will be adding a few changes to the friend update email:* It will only contain reviews that went on your update feed. This means the email to your friends will respect the feed setting and the checkbox. In other words, if the review appears on your profile it will appear in the email, and if not, it won't.
* If you remove a review from your update feed it will not go out in the email. This is a little tricky because we only display 10 items on your update feed, so if it goes off your update feed there is no way to toggle the flag. We will have to live with that unless we can think of a better way
* A new preference to not receive to-read books in the email
* A new preference to only receive books with text reviews
* A new preference to get the weekly version from top friends, which we were missing for some reason
I really, really would like a "ship before" date like PBS does. I believe they allow up to 5 days, but I've rarely needed the entire window. We are going to add this soon :)
Donna: I'm not sure if we explained how the karma works. There is no way a "misunderstanding" could affect your karma in the current system because there is no way for another user to rate you or your swap interaction. The karma is simply based on how many books you've received, how many you've sent, and how many you've requested. (eg http://www.goodreads.com/swap/user/1 ). This will show if someone is just requesting and receiving a lot of books but not putting any back in.
Our theory is that people are generally good and honest, and thus will feel motivated to list and send off some books if they request and receive some. I know this will take some time to get used to if you are already familiar with other swap sites, so we are giving it a good trial. But it also could be people need the motivation of credits to feel good about getting some back when sending their books out into the world.
I audited the code and think I found out why. The friend of friends page doesn't check the challenge question. I will make a ticket to address this - thank everyone!
The "Let's compare books" email means that person had you in their yahoo/gmail/aol/hotmail address book and invited you through that.
Rivka is right on the copyright question. Technically I would love to restrict or collapse images, as I agree they are annoying. We have a ticket to do that.
Jimmy: We could easily do what LT did - it's just some simple API's. But we haven't been motivated to, as not many people have asked us for that. I understand the issue about not knowing the condition of the book. It seems to be one of the bigger issues, and we're going to work on that a bit.
Keep the feedback coming on karma vs credits - this is definitely an experiment, and we need all the feedback we can get!
