Giveaway Reviews (45 new)
Dec 18, 2013 04:28PM

1 I've won several giveaways here on goodreads and have written reviews for a a vast majority of them. I have 2 books that I won from a goodreads giveaway earlier this year that I haven't had a chance to read or review yet. I do plan on reading them in the next several months and will post a review once I've read them.

Just offering a perspective that sometimes winners can't get to reading books that they've won immediately. I try my best but sometimes life gets in the way.
1 I believe when you complete the challenge (i.e. all the books that you targeted to read) that it let's you post the status to facebook. At least that is what I seem to recall from last year.

1 Silvana,

People would know your email address if they are someone you had email contact with in the past. From the Friends pge on goodreads (http://www.goodreads.com/friend ) on the right side you can find friends from various email hosts..ex. gmail, yahoo etc. What this does is go through your contacts on your email account and find anyone who is already on goodreads and ask you if you want to friend them. If someone does this, and a match is found for you, they don't get prompted with the challenge question.
1 here's a link...just to provide full info :)

1 Have you taken a look at the listopia feature here on goodreads? It allows users to define any sort of list and for others to contribute to and vote on lists. These are not directly related to shelves.

1 The iPhone mobile app added a way to get to My Groups in the last update. It is one of the options under "My Books". I am not sure if the same option was added in the most recent Android update.
Book Swap... (2 new)
Dec 20, 2008 01:03PM

1 It works however you want it to work, basically. All that goodreads offers is a way for you to indicate that some of your books are available to swap. It is up to those who wish to swap books with eachother to come up with the exact conditions of the swap.

1 Yes, there is an issue with dates before 1900. There is even a note about it on the date field in the author edit screen: (currently dates before 1900 don't save - we're working on it)

1 On a food site that I am on, they have a policy that you are allowed to link to your offsite or blog review but your review on their foodie site must contain all of the content as well. Perhaps a policy like that would be good here as well. We want to encourage people to share their opinions, but "opinions" that are nothing but links to external sites don't do the Goodreads community as a whole much good.

1 I've noticed that the friends on a user's profile show the friends in order of who was online @ goodreads most recently. So if you are looking at one of your friend's profiles, there is a high chance that you will be at the top, unless some other one of their friends also happens to be online at the same time.

1 My homepage is still displaying correctly. SOmetimes if one of your friends has an update where the text doesn't wrap, the 2nd column of the page gets pushed to the bottom.

1 sounds like a good idea.

1 Roxy, you can make multiple friend requests at once via friends of friends.

1 I do not like the option of limiting the number of books a person can vote for on each list. There are some lists where I've added/voted for 30+ books.

Just because I vote for 10 "south asian literature" books doesn't mean that my 1st place vote should hold less weight than other people's first place vote.

I think the fairest way to do things is to give everyone's 1st place vote the same weight (example 10 points), regardless of whether they've voted for additional books on that list. Everyone's 2nd place vote should have the same weight (example: 5 points) and on down (ex. 3, 4, 1, 0.5). Once you get to a certain number of votes, the score for each additional vote might be a single low value (example 0.2 points).

Italic (5 new)
Aug 10, 2008 01:41PM

1 Even if people do end their italics, this happens anytime the italics are started and the "end italics" ends up inside the part of the review.

1 Rora, I noticed that book ( Luthiel's Song) too and commented on it in the other listopia thread. Someone there agreed with me that it is inappropriate/suspicious. The Spamming occurred suddenly over the last 2 or 3 days pushing that book the the top of at least 2 dozen lists.
Aug 02, 2008 05:56PM

1 These past few days I've noticed what seems to be a targeted effort to vote the book "Luthiel's Song" up to the top 5 books of at least 2 dozen lists, some of which are questionable as to if the book truly belongs on that list. It looks like everyone who voted it for it on these lists voted for just that book on each of the lists.

I would hate to see Listopia abused by people shilling for a publisher or author.
1 The listopia updates show your top rated book in a list as "So and so added BLAH to the SUCHANDSUCH list" anytime you add/remove/reorder any book in that list.
1 I am getting the same Oops message when I try to update either of my groups. i reported it here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show_g...

Edited to add: it seems to be working correctly this morning.

1 I am trying to update the description and other fields on one of my private book club groups and when I hit Save it gives a message: Oops! We can't find that group.

I've tried to update it several times.

Thank you!
