1 Hey all,

We will be releasing a slight new design of our group pages shortly - either tonight or tomorrow - and wanted to give you all a sneak peek! Here are two design mocks of what they will look like.

New group design - no masthead

New group design, with a masthead image

There are two major changes:

1. Masthead images! Now moderators can set a large masthead at the top, to really make the group feel customized and beautiful. At first only a few groups will have them, but all groups should be able upload them over the next week.
2. Videos! Now groups can embed videos from YouTube and other sources to appear on the group homepage. This will be very useful for any groups that record their bookclub discussion, or just want to highlight a particular video relating to the book they are reading. By default videos will appear below the discussions, but moderators can choose to put them at the very top if they want.

And a few minor changes:

* Group navigation on the right side is tightened up into 3 columns
* Moderators are also tightened up into 2 columns
* Group information (category, tags, group type, rules) get hidden behind a "Group Info" link if you are already a member of the group.

As always, feedback appreciated!

1 Awesome - thanks for sharing!

1 Great ideas Lucy! Groups are in there, but they are buried - so the next release will have improved navigation to be able to find them.

Messages and notifications are on the roadmap right after that!

1 We were doing more database work this weekend and the script didn't run yesterday. Just kicked it off so hopefully will finish before tomorrow!

1 Yes - because they are pushed around to so many places it doesn't make sense for us to add that feature. You'll notice Facebook and Twitter behave the same way.

1 I think I might have found this issue. If so it was only affecting people whose friends added certain (more rare) books. Fingers crossed :)

1 Maintenance is over, thanks so much for your patience. Unfortunately we didn't quite get everything done that we wanted to, so we will have to try again later.

1 This is definitely on the list!

1 Lol. I do need a new pic - but am afraid to change it now!

1 Thanks for reporting! Will probably take a little time to get to these, but we definitely need a good list of them.

It was a balance. If we warned you earlier before the imports, the numbers would have looked depressingly scarey. And given the lack of time it took us until very recently to ink the new licenses and get the data and get it imported. A few importers are even still running right now.

I think we did the best we could, am am proud that over 99% of the books at risk are now safe. But as Patrick said - we are committed to keeping every single record, so we aren't nearly done.

1 Thanks everyone!

I agree - what an amazing community. Librarians have rescued over 60 thousand books in the past few weeks. Simply amazing. I am humbled and honored to be a part of it.

And did I mention - while this week has been hellish - I'm so excited for independence! We will celebrate jan 30 for years to come :)

While we are done with the "big" import, we are now up to 16 different data sources, and 4-5 are still importing. These are mostly libraries and public sources of book information. The good news is they have lots of obscure and international editions. We'll know more after the weekend. Also, after the deadline we will continue importing missing editions in the background, so even if we don't get them all by monday, we still plan to get them all as soon as we can.

1 We, along with almost every other internet company, are against SOPA. It is a bad thing to put that much power in the hands of government. We don't have a blackout planned yet.
1 I'm noticing that too. Will investigate.

1 Unfortunately I think these issues are all on FB's end. I think they should be showing wall posts on Timeline, but perhaps they aren't showing ones from apps unless they have likes or comments? Not sure.

In any event, we will have a better solution when they launch the Custom Open Graph, which should launch after Timeline finishes launching.

1 ISBNS can contain letters - for instance many contain an "X". We might be able to do better validation though - will have to look into it.

1 We worked with Google on a solution but I haven't heard from them if it made it live yet. Will check. Are people who opted out of review syndication still noticing their reviews on Google Books?

1 We are proud to be a partner for the launch of the new Nook Tablet. I've come to be a Nook owner as of this summer and think its every bit as good as Kindle.
