"The characters, dialogue and action are mature enough to satisfy readers at the older end of the YA range, and the author weaves them all into an attention-sustaining tale. Pacing and description are also strong in what is clearly the opening novel of a series. The culturally diverse fantasy world borrows from real-world societies and places ranging from India to Europe and beyond. ...the milieu is markedly original...first rate world-building."

Aazuria Vellamo has returned to the undersea kingdom of Adlivun only to find that the place she called home for over five hundred years has changed drastically. Once the beloved rightful queen, she is now an outcast hiding among the commoners. She observes the political situation from a distance, trying to maneuver her daughter into the safest place possible-- but Aazuria quickly discovers that no part of the expanding nation is safe any longer.
Mingling with the lower class workers who have been forced to labor on building a transpacific bridge across the Bering Strait, Aazuria watches her people suffer disgrace and abuse at the hands of their American overseers. Before she realizes it, she finds herself mixed up in riots and rebellions. Aazuria goes about in disguise to learn more, and discovers that in Adlivun's desperate underbelly a religious cult has formed, led by Mother Melusina. Her own dear friend, General Visola Ramaris, has been training a small group of elite warriors in her own private army, which is all that remains of Adlivun's fine military.
Visola's husband, Vachlan Suchos, learns that he has missed important information coded in the words which he only considered an emotional farewell from his dying daughter. This intelligence will inevitably lead to the awakening of the vicious man's inner beast, and inspire his lust for war. But with Adlivun completely reliant on protection from the United States-- is it a good idea to burn bridges? [close]

In this intriguing new novel from the author of Admission, a successful marriage counselor learns that her perfect life is a mirage.
Grace Reinhart Sachs is living the only life she ever wanted for herself. Devoted to her husband, a pediatric oncologist at a major cancer hospital, their young son Henry, and the patients she sees in her therapy practice, her days are full of familiar things: she lives in the very New York apartment in which she was raised, and sends Henry to the school she herself once attended.
Dismayed by the ways in which women delude themselves, Grace is also the author of a book You Already Know, in which she cautions women to really hear what men are trying to tell them.
But weeks before the book is published a chasm opens in her own life: a violent death, a missing husband, and, in the place of a man Grace thought she knew, only an ongoing chain of terrible revelations.
Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster, and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child and herself. Book Two: This would have been their perfect love song…
It has been two years since Lucia Mpobo-Riddell has made her choice between the two men in her life. She and her beloved would have been perfectly happy if it wasn’t for… the constant distractions from her past, her sister Noor’s complicated life, her own doubts and fears. Maybe there wasn’t such a thing as perfection and this was a lesson that Lucia was going to learn the hard way. Greg McMullen and Marcus Grant’s lives had been affected by Lucia’s choice that day in Glasgow two years ago. Since then one had been fighting to keep her when the other had been relentlessly trying to get her back. It soon became apparent to them that she wasn’t the Lucia they met and fell in love with anymore. Her life and priorities had completely shifted. To even consider keeping her or just getting her back, they would have to accept it or they would have to let her go. But would they ever be able to do either? [close]

Love can be such a “coulda, woulda, shoulda” song sometimes…
Lucia Mpobo-Riddell could have been a dancer like the rest of women of her family but instead she chose music. Marcus Grant could have been a doctor like the rest of his family but instead he chose music. She also could have not fallen for Marcus on her birthday but she did. And Marcus, he could have told Lucia the truth about his real reason for being in Toronto that night, but he didn’t. Now they have to deal with big reveals and consequences: Marcus almost stealing her job and being force to work on an album together. Marcus, because he couldn’t swallow his pride, leave Toronto and go home to London. Lucia, because she just couldn’t give up on her first amazing opportunity to produce a whole album. And to complicate the situation further, the band they’re working for is not the easiest one. Mary Gillis, Marcus’ on and off flame, still has a hold on him. Greg McMullen, Lucia’s close friend and former dance partner is back in town and has been in love with her for years. Then there’s Marcus and Lucia, in the middle of their own a professional and personal tug-of- war with each over and the rest of the world. But maybe things could still work out… All things considered, this could have been one heck of a love song! [close]

The Last Circle is a chilling and brutal account of a genocide driven take-over of America by radical, right-wing, Christian conservatives.
Based upon existing platforms and quotes from American Conservative political and church leaders, The Last Circle chronicles the rise to power of a United States Evangelical theocracy and the small group of Pagan and LGBT friends who must escape the country in order to survive.
The U.S. economy is plunged into depression allowing a charismatic preacher to seize control of the government as the leader of the Tea Party and 'Revangelism' movements. With the support of a starving nation, he engages in a gruesome, systematic program of religious and cultural cleansing.
Laura Salway is the leader of a devoted group of friends who maintain a precarious Wiccan Coven in Indianapolis. After publicly performing a Pagan ritual in protest of the new administration, they attempt to flee to the safety of Europe. In a cat and mouse chase through the Southern states, they are relentlessly pursued by Shelby Langman, the vitriolic director of the Bureau of Religious Protection, charged with keeping America safe from threats to Judeo-Christian values.
Their terrifying journey tests the limits of the Coven's friendship and Laura must discover who among them is secretly tipping Shelby off.

No PO BOXES, Please.
From the internationally bestselling author of four books, including The Opposite of Me, a vibrant, compulsively readable novel about two married couples who pursue a dream to open a bed-and-breakfast in small-town Vermont.
In her previous works including The Best of Us, “rising star” (Library Journal) Sarah Pekkanen captivated readers by penning “refreshingly introspective, sharply realistic, and tenderly humorous” novels (Booklist) that had readers “flying through the pages” (Hoda Kotb, Today show). Now, in Catching Air, Pekkanen turns an unflinching eye on the tangled relationships of two pairs of thirty-somethings.
A chance to run a B&B in snowy, remote Vermont—it’s an offer Kira Danner can’t resist after six soul-crushing years of working as a lawyer in Florida. As Kira and her husband, Peter, step into a brand new life, she quells her fears about living with the B&B’s co-owners: Peter’s sexy, irresponsible brother Rand, and Rand’s wife, Alyssa…who is essentially a stranger.
For her part, Alyssa sees taking over the B&B as the latest in a string of adventures. Plus, a quiet place might help her recover from the news that she can’t bear children. But the idyllic town proves to be anything but serene: Within weeks, the sisters-in-law are scrambling to prepare for their first big booking—a winter wedding—and soon a shy, mysterious woman comes to work for them. Dawn Zukoski is hiding something; that much is clear. But what the sisters-in-law don't realize is that Dawn is also hiding from someone…

Navigating the waters of dementia can be frightening, unleashing a myriad of emotions for everyone involved. After Vicki Tapia’s mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, followed closely by her father with Parkinson’s disease-related dementia, she struggled to find practical, helpful information to light her way. Somebody Stole My Iron began as a diary to help her cope, but emerged as a road map for others. It offers a glimpse into her family's life as they rode the waves of dementia, sometimes sailing, other times capsizing. This engaging memoir offers useful information from experts within the field of Alzheimer's research, personal lessons the author learned along the way, and ideas and tips for managing the day-to-day ups and downs of dementia.
Somebody Stole My Iron is a story of holding on and ultimately learning to let go; transcending the pain and turmoil to discover love and compassion. Above all, Somebody Stole My Iron chronicles the tenacity of Tapia’s mother as she fought her way through the tangled and bewildering labyrinth. The narrative offers hope to those whose lives have been intimately affected by dementia, letting them know that they are not alone.
A valuable lesson for all!

By the sharing of this family's journey, many others will have a less rocky path! What a gift Vicki gave to her parents over those years. Even if they did not realize it, the gentle compassion that she bestowed was a blessing to her parents as well as herself. The day after I finished the book, I was at work, as an emergency nurse, and an elderly patient arrived by ambulance for a nursing home. She had some dementia and had not eaten for two days. Her daughter insisted that her mother be sent to the hospital for a battery of tests, poking and probing. I wish I had had my copy of Vicki's book in my bag to give to this poor women's daughter. As George O'Dell read, these words seemed to jump off the page, so he paused for a moment to think. His friendship with his childhood mentor, Miss MacAlpin, couldn't be attributed to luck. Since her death, he was sure the relationship came from some great unseen design. It was other relationships in his life that he questioned. Over the summer, he'd lost his first love, Audrey, and his former best friend, Cliff, was killed in a car crash. He was still reeling emotionally, and his faith wavered. It didn't help that his friend's mother wrongly blamed him.
After Miss MacAlpin left her estate to George, it became his duty to get her manuscripts published, and from his first glance at this one, he knew it was another wild adventure. After the rebellion and subsequent war in Kriterion caused by her brother, Alex, the kingdom needed healing. No one understood that better than the governor of Minorea, Cole. He started by visiting the mines there, but what he saw shook him to the core. Strange creatures were stripping the mines of treasure. He knew something or someone sinister was behind it because the creatures weren't intelligent enough to act on their own. National Clandestine Service black ops agent Chad Halverson and dress designer Victoria Brady take refuge in a blast shelter in the Nevada desert when an A-bomb is dropped on Las Vegas at the behest of the president of the United States.
They join up with a band of four fellow refugees, who are not what they seem, and head east toward the nation's capitol to find out what remains of the government.
However, another band of refugees intercepts them, kidnaps the lot of them, and spirits them away to a massive bunker complex in top secret Area 51, where SS-Oberfuehrer Oswald Gutman's son, Hector Guzman, is conducting sadistic experiments. The billionaire drug dealer Guzman made his fortune in Mexico after growing up in Argentina in seclusion with his father, an unrepentant member of the Order of the Death's Head who escaped Germany via a ratline to Buenos Aires after the fall of Adolf Hitler's Third Reich and changed his name to Guzman.
Halverson stumbles onto a conspiracy so diabolical it defies belief, a conspiracy so vast that it already extends into the highest reaches of the US government. Outnumbered and outgunned, a well as besieged by hordes of zombies that survived the nuclear holocaust, he must somehow defeat the cabal before it can achieve world domination.

Zale. Gauthier. Varden. For me, these three dynasties have always sounded like something out of an ancient myth or fairy tale from another world. The concept of humans and dragons helping and living in harmony with one another, without fear, is a distant dream only read of, told of secretly, and quietly yearned for.
For, you see, I am the new Quelda of the Tynan Dynasty.
These words echo the mystery, horror, and romance found within Schulze's young adult fantasy adventure novel.
Along with her new husband, Chalom, Crislin must choose to embrace cruel tradition, run from it, or stand against it. The young couple's only hope is to rally the help of the three peaceful dragon dynasties of Sulaimon—but tradition is not on their side, even outside Tynan. Gaining the dragon emperors’ aid is not a likely hope. Then again, any hope at all is valued in Tynan.
If they are to bring Tynan’s tradition to a permanent end, Crisilin and Chalom must brave the three dynasties and the challenges awaiting there. They must convince the dragon emperors to allow them access to the shrines which house the sacred Aria—protective strands of music which can disperse the evil from Tynan and unite the four dynasties of Sulaimon as a whole once again. Their only aid stems from a sprite whose moods are as changeable as her magic, a young minstrel, and a mysterious fox. Despite the odds, defeating the evil of Tynan is possible—but only if they can escape the Wall first.

She's been haunted for years by her own mysterious past: she was abandoned as a baby in one of the city's ancient cemeteries, and it’s rumored that she is the illegitimate daughter of an infamous Savannah root doctor.View Details »
The local Gullah culture of voodoo and magic is one that few outsiders can understand, least of all Elise’s new partner. Now someone is terrorizing the city, creating real-life zombies by poisoning victims into a conscious paralysis that mimics death.
As the chilling case unfolds, Elise is drawn back into the haunted past she's tried so hard to leave behind.
From Publishers Weekly:
Frasier (Sleep Tight, etc.) has perfected the art of making a reader's skin crawl, which is evident from this book's very first scene, in which a medical examiner discovers in the midst of an autopsy that the cadaver he's working on is really a live person. Set in Savannah, Ga., this exceptional thriller follows the hunt for the deranged person who's drugging people so that their minds remain wide awake even as their bodies resemble death.
The creepiness factor increases when Frasier introduces homicide detective Elise Sandburg, who was abandoned in a cemetery as a baby and who knows Gullah spells and culture. Elise's partner, anti-social David Gould, is equally strange; his past holds secrets so dark he should be under psychiatric care. Formerly with the FBI, Gould currently lives in a rundown, foul-smelling apartment and sleeps with a prostitute who works for a voodoo priestess. As the two detectives follow leads to the priestess and the former college professor who researched the drug, they forge a tentative bond and come to terms with their own troubled pasts.
Frasier's characters are not only fully realized, but fascinating to boot, and she evokes the dark, mystical side of Savannah with precision and skill. Appropriately, this unsettling tale closes with a grim children's rhyme and a spell for "Elise's Follow-Me-Boy Mojo."
