Dawn West is a recent college graduate trying to make her way in New York City. She’s got an ex-boyfriend she still sees (but is trying to get over), a roommate to clean up after, and a writing career she’s desperate to launch (writing under a pen name for a lawn care website doesn’t count). So when Dawn lands a freelance gig with Charm magazine, she’s thrilled. She’s even more thrilled when she hears the job description: track down the past winners of Charm's annual “Ten Girls to Watch” contest, which has selected ten outstanding college students for the past fifty years, and plan an event to honor them.
But as Dawn interviews the winners – women who range in age from twenty-one to seventy-one – and continues to navigate the thrills and pitfalls of being a twenty-something in New York, she’ll be forced to question everything she thought she knew about herself. She’ll learn that success, love, and friendship can be found in the most unexpected of places. And most importantly, she’ll find that though those who have gone before us can be role models, ultimately, we each have to carve our own way.
