How many people can be inspired to read at least one classic this year? How many classics can we read as a group? Be sure to join us for the 2013 challenge outlined in this group or visit the facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/events/467433866625359/ Between Facebook and Goodreads, participants logged 227 books totaling 77,496 pages in the last quarter of 2012.
The idea for this group came from my cousin Scott, a high school English teacher, who "made this event for anyone who wants to read a classic story, play, or book of poetry before January 1, 2014. Here’s how it works: by accepting the invitation, you commit to finishing at least one book before the deadline. I’ll tally up all the titles and books in January, and see what kind of literary contribution that we’ve made to society in 2013. I’ve been thinking about a way to take English Literature education out of the classroom, and to give you an incentive to read that book that you’ve always meant to read, but never gotten around to reading. Why not give it a go?
I’ve created an excel file so that I can keep track of the data. When you finish, please post the following information to the feed: Title, Author, Translator (if applicable), Year of (initial) Publication, Number of Pages, and Format (print, e-reader, audiobook, etc.). You may also post analysis, critique, or questions about the book if you wish. I’ll try to keep you updated on the progress. We'll see how many we can log in 2013.
I'm planning on doing some fun stuff this year. I think we'll have some months dedicated to specific genres and or time-period pieces (both set in and written during)."
This is a grassroots group so feel free to participate as much or as little as you have time for. All suggestions for improving the group are welcome.
