Sixteen year old Holly Bennett is a comic book nerd, a con artist...and a shaman. Most days Holly wishes she could trade in her power of spirit communication for something more useful--like fireballs or Wolverine claws. She knows spirits aren't exactly Casper the Friendly Ghosts. They're dangerous beings from Lower World who snack on human life, and messing with the magic from their world is an express ticket to big trouble. But when a shaman sticks her mom's mind between their world and ours, Holly becomes the unexpected breadwinner in the family. She uses her burgeoning shaman powers to set up fake hauntings and "banish" the so-called ghosts from her wealthy classmates' bedrooms. For a fee, of course.
When actual spirits start manifesting, Holly discovers that other shamans have come to town, summoning life-sucking spirits for their own ends. And the newcomers may just hold the clue Holly's been looking for--the one that can release her mom's mind from its Lower World prison. With the help of both a cute web comic artist and her partner-in-con, Holly plots to take them down, throwing her into a whirlwind of speedboat getaways, breaking and entering, and astral projections into the spirit world. And as her mom's mind slips further away, Holly has to fight to save her, and the rest of the town, before they get sucked into Lower World permanently. [close]

“A wonderfully magical book. It makes you look at life in a different way and how you can still be a kid at heart. We are forced to grow old, but we don’t have to grow up. There are always aspects in our life that would be easier if we could just be a little more childish and fun.”
Jillian, Colorado, Goodreads
“I thought this story was a breath of fresh air. In the theme of youth this was the cleanest story I have read in a very long time. Peter is a baby when this story starts riding in a carriage with his parents. The carriage comes to a stop in the middle of the enchanted forest and Peter disappears- not to be seen again till age 11, naked and grown up in the wild. Margaret, a young girl, sings and Peter stops to listen. Margaret spots the wild boy. Her family takes him in and everyone who comes to know Peter is enchanted by him. This story includes all the adventures you knew and loved with a different twist. I will be reading this story to my boys. This story moved me to tears. Peter reflects innocence and true genuine kindness unaffected by the world around him and the problems that come with age. Sometimes the fountain of youth is not always a blessing. I enjoyed this adventure and even pictured it coming to life in a movie someday.”
Fallon, Age 32, Florida, Goodreads
“Perfect for rainy day reading! Peter is the delightful story about the real boy who never grew up... Although the story stays firmly planted in its historical context, the allusions and parallels to Peter Pan are unmistakable and fun to keep an eye out for... Unlike other contemporary Peter Pan related stories that are filled with dark and sinister plots and motives, Peter illustrates the enchanting magic of the innocence of youth.”
RT, Age 24, California, Amazon
“If you are a Peter Pan aficionado, then this is the book for you!”
Roxie, Age 62, Maryland, Goodreads
“I became emotionally attached to Peter throughout the book. I caught myself trying to find out the secrets of Peter and about his past. The book will never leave me as it is so magical and recommend people to read it, the book will still be in your mind long after you’ve finished it!”
Hollie, United Kingdom, Goodreads
“A Wonderful Book, that had me from the first page.”
“I highly recommend the book to anyone that is interested in learning the foundation to the tale of Peter Pan and to those that just enjoy a good tale.”
David, Texas, Goodreads
“I could not put this book down.”
“After many failed attempts to get this book free… I purchased this book. It was a small price to pay for a great tale. I could not put it down. A boy forever spreading the joy of youth. Peter’s ability to bring the characters childlike imagination out of everyone made this a great story.”
Sandra, Missouri, Amazon
“Wasn’t quite what I was expecting. But it was a great story.”
Emma, Age 18, Goodreads
“Beautifully written with a story that would touch even the coldest of hearts. This story was brilliant and entertaining throughout, and, as my first historical fiction read I think it did the genre justice and I will definitely look out for Christopher Mechlings work in the future. I loved every page of it. “
Amelia, United Kingdom, Goodreads
“I am already in love with the story and the characters from Peter Pan and this book makes them even more real. I loved every second of it. It was a quick read and I loved Peter’s innocence and unconditional love. Very cute book, ‘easy-to-read’ writing style, great characters, and a fabulous plot line. I really enjoyed it.”
Miranda, Age 19, California, Goodreads
“I really liked this rendition or retelling of Peter Pan. I have always loved the story of Peter as it made me realize how wonderful it is to be a kid in a big world full of hard questions and hard decisions. I really liked how the author slowly starts piecing the story of Peter Pan that we all know together, with the feather in his hat and the defeated pirate. I love retellings of my favourite stories so this was a great treat for me.”
Dana, Canada, Goodreads
“This was a very interesting read and take on Peter Pan’s story. Granted, it wasn’t what I was expecting but in the end I’m happy it wasn’t. The book follows Peter, the ‘Wild Boy,’ being taken away from the forest where he had spent many years of his childhood and then integrating back into civilization. Overall, the book was easy to follow and finish, giving the reader a fresh perspective of Peter’s tale.”
Anna, Idaho, Goodreads
“Peter: The Untold True Story is such a wonderful and magical book. You grow attached to Peter and the other characters. It made me smile, laugh, and cry. I think the author did an amazing job writing this. Each chapter was detailed and very well written. This was an enjoyable read and couldn’t be read at a more perfect time for me. Reading this made me feel like a kid again. Don’t we all just want to be a little bit like Peter? Don’t we all want to be forever young? This book is perfect for all ages and I highly recommend it.”
Mallory, Age 28, New Jersey, Amazon
“Very uplifting and definitely a feel-good read.”
Natalie, Age 19, Goodreads
“Wow. I was not expecting this book to be so good. This is one of those books where you simply can’t tell if it is fiction or not, it is so well written and so plausible! It feels just fantastic enough to be true. While I spent a lot of time feeling sorry for Peter, I kept reminding myself that he was happy with the path his life took. And whether I agreed with the “civilized” people or not, it was a really interesting twist on the Peter Pan story, one that will stick with me for a long, long time to come. It reads like a superbly written biography, and has characters as well developed as any classic literature I’ve read. It entertains, while presenting philosophical questions it does not answer. It is a great read, both from a fun standpoint and an enlightening one. Could not recommend this any more strongly!”
Alyson, New York, Goodreads
“Peter’s joy, innocence and fire are qualities that we all embody as children and so I found this poignant account rather nostalgic. Memories of my childhood and youth were brought to the fore as I delved into this dazzling novel, containing colourful characters and thoughtful reflections and impacting resonance. Peter is a magical, poignant tale full of love, humor and outstanding courage in the face of hardship and trials. Above all this wonderful book makes you dream and remember how dreams really can come true!”
Lucinda, Age 23, United Kingdom, Amazon
“The story got me from the first few pages making me smile and kept me turning pages till the very end. I liked the way this book was written. Proper attention was given to details from the very start, which ignited my visual imagination, made me to bond with the characters quickly, feel their emotions and environment around them... I liked Peter and sympathized with him. I kept guessing what would become of him, and he made me to look deeper into my soul longing to become a better person. Even after reading the book the urge to be an organic and natural part of the nature, breathe at the same rhythm with it, rather than just remain a passive observer, still persists. Just to stay still for a moment and let the world in, never to stop wondering, smiling and be open to what may come even if it may hurt.”
Evija, Age 30, Latvia, Goodreads
“Peter Pan is probably my favorite childhood story. I loved the thought of being forever young and loved Peter. And this amazing story made me love Peter even more. When I read the plot of the book it sounded very interesting, but the book itself is so magical, it makes you feel much younger. Characters in the book are saying that Peter is making them remember the child in them, and I think everyone should read the book because it definitely brings back the nice time of being an innocent, careless kid. This book is truly incredible, it’s just like I imagined it would be, and even more. Definitely worth reading.”
Dorotea, Age 17, Croatia, Goodreads
“I liked this book. I love fairy tales and the stories behind them. I thought this book was entertaining and well written. I love the characters and how Peter is remembered by people who actually knew the boy behind the story. My son also liked this book. He is 10 and said that he liked this book and how it was an original story- as in behind the movie, where it came from. He liked how it put Peter Pan in a realistic way.”
Lauren, Connecticut, Goodreads
“Well-suited to reminding a reader of any age that a youthful outlook is a valuable thing.”
