The New York Times, in a review of Boyles 2001 collection of short stories, After The Plague, described him as a writer who can take you anywhere. He is the author of twenty books of fiction and more than 60 short stories. His work has been translated into more than two dozen foreign languages. He won the PEN/Faulkner award in 1988 for his third novel,World's End,which recounts 300 years in upstate New York.
