I like that it fits easily in my purse and can download library books as well as buy books from the estore. It's great for my needs since I still plan to read actual books. If you are plan to read solely on a reader you probably would want one with wireless access and more features.

I like the Sony Reader quite a lot. Good navigation, nice size. The only two things I would wish for improvement upon: greater range of font sizes and better recognition of alternate file types (non reader store downloads sometimes upload with really strange names).

Not going to lie, this little electronic book has become one of my best friend :-). It goes wherever I go. I learned about this e-reader when I came across my husband's boss sitting in the break room reading with it over lunch (we work in the same place). From that moment on I think he knew he was doomed because I harassed him for one daily ;-D. He finally purchased one for me on Christmas, knowing I would put it to good used.

Well, it works and it's fairly cheap, but that's about it.
The device is painfully slow and it gets slower the more you use it: by the time I had around 60 books on it, it took several minutes to process them on startup and they only took up 10% of the internal memory.
The library is just plain bad. The lack of any kind of directory support makes having those 512 megabytes unnecessary: you'll spend most of your time looking for the book you need. And the "collections" featu...more

It certainly doesn't have all the features that some of the other e-readers are boasting lately- no wifi, only charges via usb, and its best to stick to downloads from Sony Reader store or Borders. Yet, since I bought it off of a friend for a really low price, I can't complain. It stores plenty of books, its easy to transfer files and set up collections of different genres and series. I take this e-reader everywhere with me, and use it a lot. Oh, and the battery life is pretty decent- I took it ...more

I've already sold it on to a friend. I didn't really like how the text looked on the screen, and the pause between turning pages was limiting after a while.
That said, it was pretty good in all other ways. The battery life is fair - not really up to long hours of constant reading, like say if you flew from Australia to England and then went on a train. Only charging by USB is a little annoying also - I know there's mains charger available (or just use your PSP charger) but... still. ...more

I've had my Sony Pocket Reader for about six months now. At first I was very happy with it. It was my first dedicated ereader. I was in love with the portability of it. It's lightweight, doesn't seem to mind being dropped, doesn't attract dirt or get scratched easily.
The display is clear. My mother owns one too, and has so far found the zoom aspect adequate, despite her failing eyesight. The lack of customisation irritates. I wish it was easier to set it to different fonts, and have ...more

I love this little ereader. I read so many books, my right thumb and hand began to hurt and cramp from holding heavy books. Now I can read with so much more ease. I have had mine about a year now. I had a problem with it because I tried to download a book that was not formatted to the reader, (and it handles all kinds of formats). I just called Sony and the tech rep just lead me through a reset, and I was back up in no time. By the way, the tech help was free.

For a simple read, no extras, this is perfect. The size is very good and easy to tote around in your pocket or purse. Unlike the more popular ereaders like the Kindle or Nook, this one does not have any dictionary to allow you to look up words you don't know nor does it connect to the internet in any way. If you're only looking for an ereader to help you save paper and to be able to carry as many books around, this is for you. Though I am in love with my Kindle, I do enjoy this one as well. My d...more

I love this device. It is the most used electronic I own and is used daily. I love how tiny it is and how easy to use it is. One of the best features is the screen. It doesn't reflect alot of light making it really easy to read out in the sunlight. I don't really care that it doesn't have a backlight. It's true that the more books you have on it the slower it runs and the more it freezes, but Its easier to navigate with less books. I don't like that I can't change the name of books since books I...more

This is the new love of my life. Though I do prefer real books, I am very much in love with my eReader and I can see myself using it more and more often in the future. The reading is a very calm experience and is not as hard on the eyes as reading on the pc or the iPad is. Plus, the size is great. It fits in every bag and accompanies me everywhere. I no longer have to worry about how many books I should bring along on the holidays. In conclusion, you can say I am very much in love with my eReade...more

For someone like me who reads 3 books at a time, sneaking in quick reading moments while I eat, waiting in line, on smoke break, you name it, this is a godsend. I love the electronic ink technology. I only have to charge my e reader on a monthly basis, and the e-ink doesn't put strain on your eyes. I use Caliber in conjunction with my e reader. Yo u can borrow books through any library in the us through the Sony bookstore. They disappear off your reader in 2 weeks. Completely free!

It's a good entry-level ebook reader.
Pros: Light weight, Comfortable to read on, Easy-to-use menus, Long battery life, Plenty of storage size
Cons: Slow page turning (takes 3-4 seconds), slow booting (takes 1-1.5 minutes)

Bought as an attempt to de-clutter the house and it works a charm, I have found it easy to use and had no problems loading the software. Perfect size for my bag and enough memory for what I need. A little annoying that you have to purchase a mains charger seperately but I was told by Sony themselves that it uses the same charger as their PSP so saved some money there. This is one of what I class to be a basic model and it just that but suits me fine.

I've really enjoyed my sony reader, I've read more books I normally wouldn't have picked up because of it. This ereader is really simple to use and gets the job done. I think it's a great "starter" ereader, but I'll be going for something different once this needs replacing.
