I love Camile Paglia. A long while ago, I read an article she wrote on Salon and I became an instant fan. I have to check out this book.
Ymatt, you always have such great observations! When are we going to have tea and talk about books?
Be well, friend!

In school I was never suprised in writing workshops that the work of writers who did not read was vapid and banal. Always. Do you think, like Prose, that close reading is prerequisite for good writing?
Is it possible to be a writer who doesn't enjoy reading? We all know readers who have no desire to write, but does it work the other way around?
There's nothing better than Frog and Toad. This is great reading for children with lessons that are just as timely for adults!
Great add!
Ah...Dubus! His ability to create intimacy between the characters and the reader is phenomenal. Reading his work is always a pleasure. I return to it and remember how it feels to experience good short fiction. I read my copy of "In The Bedroom" until the cover became tattered; I replaced it with this volume of short stories in January. Re-reading Dubus is akin to returning home after a long trip away: No matter how good it felt to leave for the trip, it doesn't compare to the feeling of returning to your familiar bed, comfy slippers, and your favorite cup for tea.
