Anna I think that these are to parts of the same thing. Astonishment , attitude, attraction - all these feeling is also emotional states. And it's necessary to be free with your emotion to develop more complicated feelings. When you realize your emotion you can transform it. And when emotion is something somewhere and try to speak to your consciousness it can't develop, it's too busy.
I've read "We" my first time at school, because all the russian high school students were to read it since 1995. But I think that people in high school aren't ready for undestanding all the dimensions of this book. Later I've read it again and it impressed me, because in 2002 Russia went far away from Zamyatin's scary predictions but many particular things in our reality makes us think that we are closer to "We" sociality. Many of people don't have time and motivation to feel deep emotion. Rationality is our attractive idea both in science and even in some branches of art. If in school I've saw in the book some predictions of communistic future, now I understand that "We" is one of the first steps to cyberpunk art.
I like mostly contemporary russian prose, esspecialy with a mystic tone, like Pelevin's "wervolwes' sacred writing" (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11809...)I think it's a very interesting line in russian culture that rised from books of Gogol and Bulgakov
