587013 I haven't read it yet! I've heard about it though. So it's good?

I kind of wish my arctic journey could be doomed too! (And it's going to be in February now.) Doomed arctic journeys are the only legitimate kind.

1088116 This sounds fun (though I had no idea St. Brendan got all the way to America). What or who inspired you to add it to your list? Let me know if it's good.

919786 That looks so cute!!

551890 Now that is a good recommendation, Em. I know I'm not lacking in creativity, but sometimes my perfectionism stands in the way of progress. Are you that way too?

1511395 So why did your parents name you after Linnaeus? Or did they just want to name you Linnea and that happened to be a name that came from Linnaeus?

1511395 I think the Spanish word for "line" is something like "linea," and I always thought Line would be an odd girl's name. Being named after Linnaeus makes much more sense.

I wonder if you would like the Patrick O'Brian books? Of course there's lots of naval swashbuckling, but I just love the doctor/naturalist. He's always saying, "Quit messing around with ships and war and leave me in peace on this island so I can look at the mosses, won't you??" Only much more eloquently.

1511395 PS - I was inspired to add it to the list because of this blog entry I stumbled across:

Plus I like natural history anyway, and naturalist art. Especially now that I'm reading the Patrick O'Brian "Master and Commander" books. One of the main characters, the doctor, is also a naturalist.

1511395 Linnaeus is your namesake???? I never knew that, but of course it makes total sense! That's so cool!!! I kind of love him.

1007759 Ok, then I'd better get started!
Jan 04, 2008 11:01AM

1007759 This is a very cute review. I think I should try reading this book to my cats so I can get the same enjoyment.

10507 Yep, I know. But it sounds like Baudolino is totally right up your alley. Also, it sounds like Island is a book that many other Eco lovers just didn't like as much. I think it's probably the hardest book I've ever slogged through.

This is fun. :D

10507 It gives everybody a hard time. But it really is rewarding, I think. It's one of those books that has always stayed with me in my mind.

Hey, have you read or seen "Perfume"? I've done both. I liked the book, and recently saw and really liked the movie too.

119073 Oh cool! Yeah, my friend Jeannette posted an interesting review and has been telling me for a while how good it is. It's on my shelf, waiting...
Jan 03, 2008 05:35AM

119073 No, I haven't read it though I've seen it in bookstores and admired the pictures. I haven't read Foucault's Pendulum either, but I intend to one of these days!
Jan 03, 2008 05:10AM

119073 It's one of my favorite books, and one that's stayed in my mind so much for so long. Maybe you would like "The Island of the Day Before" too - or have you read it? It's a big more difficult to get through, but very rewarding, and it concerns the quest for longitude during the age of sail. And in your quadrant of the world, too!

112077 Are you truly reading it? Huzzah!!!
Jan 02, 2008 09:11PM

510%2ba7n8dil This is something on my wish list. Cionaudha, doesn't it sound wonderful?

10507 That sounds really good, Jeannette! I still haven't read it. You HAVE to read the Niccolo books (after you finish Lymond). Also, I can't remember, did you read "The Island of the Day Before"?
