Pinker, while recognizing how socialization and individual experience influence individuals, presents a lot of research demonstrating how genetics (through natural selection, as well as just family genetics) determine a great deal of our behavior and thoughts. It's really interesting research (and extremely conclusive), so I would recommend it for that. It is not meant to imply determinism or anything like that, but simply to highlight how natural selection shaped our mind to have certain attunements that are essential for survival. So if you're in the mood for a provocative and interesting read, I would definitely recommend it.
