I think I agree with you about the cover, now that you mention it. I liked the story and characters, but the art is what I loved so much about the book. It reminds me a lot of Dave McKean's (non-photoshopish) art. Beautiful.
I just had the same experience with this book. I thought it would be a little different than it actually was, but I'm glad it talked more about how the restaurant business actually works, instead of how awesome Anthony Bourdain is (which, like you say, he all but admits he's not _that_ great). I want to read books more like this.
Yes, it's fantastic and beautiful! I have this checked out from the library, but I think this is one I'll have to (gasp) go buy to keep on the shelf. It is wonderful!
